I've been doing some research for a few days on speech patterns and mannerisms of Southern preachers, and I just now saw a video on YouTube of an Independent Fundamentalist Baptist (IFB) preacher who said that if a man is called by God to be pastor he must wear a WHITE shirt to services (no exceptions) and a tie that CANNOT be pink.

He said a man who will wear pink is clearly not called by God to do any Christian work. I know some statements are for theatrics and laughs, but this man seemed very serious. He even berated a younger pastor in the audience for wearing a dark blue dress shirt.

Is it true that a Christian man is forbidden to wear pink?

There is but one way to heaven and that is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. Sin is wrong and we must repent and our faith in Christ is not head knowledge but a real relationship where we trust and hope in Him, but as fallible humans God gives us mercy, grace and love even when we falter and fail. It is the condition of our heart that matters, not the colors we wear.

If it is my grandfathers sitting next to the devil. He retired to Ft lauderdale in the mid 80s and that man had some loud as clothes. He gave me an old Pink sports jacket that I always threatened to wear to church on Easter.

These are the kind of things turn people away from church.

How did Jesus dress? Did he really care about how well people were dressed?

Simply put, is there anti Christian symbolism behind the color? If a pink tie is worn to signify that the wearer is gay then it is not OK. If a pink tie is worn because it was a Christmas gift from your daughter, then by all means, wear it.

God knows the reason someone wears a certain color and he is the only one who counts.

Even then you better know more than just a few scriptures. I've seen many scriptures twisted to mean something that they actually don't mean.

I saw another video where an IFB pastor told his congregation not to use their iPads for Bible texts during sermons. He told them -- seriously -- that God prefers them to use a black leather Bible and only one in KJV.

Only color you got to worry about is the blood of Christ. As long as you are wearing that and doing your best (we all fail daily) the rest will take care of itself.

My wife's granddad is a Baptist preacher and he'll tell you that he thinks churches shouldn't use projector screens to display verses or hymn lyrics because it "takes their eyes off of their Bibles". He also says people shouldn't use a bible app on their phone during church for the same reason.

I love the man but just have to shake my head. The bible isn't the leather, ink and paper, its the message within it. Doesn't matter how you get it.

Quite often, mainly to serve agendas and unfounded or distorted ideas.

My Dad is a pastor and he has blue shirts and a pink tie. I have one too. If he is going to hell, or defying God, then nobody has a chance. I've been to some churches, actually one he was at for almost 6 years, where it was what my wife refers to as Six Flags over Jesus, and I never liked it. Drums, guitars, and 300 people with their hands in the air, shorts and flip flops, contemporary music, but it's not anyone's place to judge, God owns that decision.

Why would God care about your clothes? To say something like that seems like just the opposite of what Christianity is meant to be.

Churches where congregations blindly follow a pastor are destined for problems, IMO. I fear it is all too common and won't change anytime soon.

Unfortunately, Im sure that's Just one of the minor things in their legalistic views. In Galatians 5 Paul is writing and is pretty clear about falling prey to legalistic views & false teacher and talks pretty intently about it. Of course Christians in those days and Christians in these days deal with different legalism. Sadly, they end with the same result, an arrogant religious self-deception that is doomed to failure.

While going out to my truck a few Sunday's ago before we headed off to church I overheard my neighbor having a conversations and said to her friend, " now make sure you tell him to wear a suit, we have a very formal church." That statement has stuck with me. Very rarely these day will you hear, " Hey at my church, We worship God! We make deciples that make deciples and give all glory to God." It's all about budgets, agendas, looks, attendance and holding to traditional creeds for a lot of churches. It shouldn't matter if you show up to church in jeans, suits, camo or rags for clothes. As long as everyone focuses on the 95% that we have in common in Gods word, the other 5% of our "preferences" won't matter at all.

Well here's what Jesus had to say on the subject:

And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Colosians 2:8 helps me in this situation:

"Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ."

I have to partially agree with your wife's granddad about the projector screens. While they can enhance a service in many ways they do indeed take your eyes off of the Bible. To prove my point, next time you go to a church that uses them for scripture look around at the number of people that don't bring a Bible. They seem to get used to the scripture being provided so they don't bring the word with them. Personally, I wish they wouldn't use them during the song service or for scripture. Of course there are those that aren't going to bring one anyway.

Personally, I always look up the scripture myself in My KJV, so it doesn't matter what they put up there to me. But as long as they are reading real scriptures and not paraphrased text, why would the source of script matter so much. Some of the older folks can see it much better on the big screen.

People never cease to amaze me.

Who cares what a person wears to church or if they have a bible? What counts is what is in their hearts and only God can be the judge of that.
