Its just security theater. They cant stop a true threat. Personally, I would rather take my chances than deal with the Gestapo routine. Realistically, you are flying at 30,000 feet in a tin can, after that, what difference does another layer of danger really matter?

Yep. Agree completely. That's why I drive when I can.

Shoot, in the decade before 9/11 I probably logged as many hours on a passenger plane as some of the pilots. Used to be I could get to the airport and be through the X-ray machine and the metal detector In15 minutes. Occasionally they might want to swab my computer bag and make me boot my computer up.

I've traveled a couple of times since then. I don't see one damn thing all those tsa people do that would prevent a hijacking any better than the old way of doing it. What does it accomplish to antagonize the passengers and keep family from meeting you at the gates? You stop terrorist attacks by PROFILING and by keeping tabs on people in this country that we know damn good and well have terrorist sympathies. Or better yet, keeping them out In The first damn place. Wonder why we could suddenly come up with a whole new billion dollar agency to police the flying citizens of this country, but we still can't find enough money to police the border.

The whole tsa thing is nothing but another government work program designed to give the illusion of benefit while actually accomplishing little more than what was done before with billions of dollars less expense.

I fly through Tampa semi -regular. It is the absolute worst out of any of the airports I visit as far as dealing with TSA. Absolute idiots in there.

Yay me, I get to go through there again here in a few weeks.

It's random. Every so many persons through the line and a little light comes on to say "check this person". It is completely random. If the TSA agent doesn't perform the check then they could loose their job.

I fly 3 weeks out of every month, on average. I can get through most security lines in less than 15 min. On occasions I'm the lucky person that gets picked for that type of search. It's no big deal guys.

I don't understand the not being able to go to the gate either. What is the difference? You used to go through security to go to the gate, why could you not do that now?

And I agree, most of the time it is easy and quick to make it through. I don't have a problem with random checks. But, they need to at least train or hire people that are able to articulate to the person being checked why they are being checked. Part of having a policing type job is relating to the public. TSA people do not seem as a whole to be able to communicate with anyone.

A few years ago I was flying to Columbus, OH to an engineering meeting for Honda R&D. A buddy of mine had a stainless steel gap gauge in his carry on. I kept telling him it was going to be a problem while we were in line for security. We got up there and went through and we got pulled out of the line and they wanted to go through his bag. I told him "Yep.... here we go". They took his bag and pulled us into a side room and started tearing his bag apart. They took a gallon zip lock bag which had a toothbrush, floss, and a tube of toothpaste in it. They snatched that toothpaste tube out of there and proceeded to ream him up one side and down the other about that toothpaste. There is a size restriction on tubes of toothpaste and you can only take those little ones on the plane. He had taken a big tube from home that was nearly empty and rolled it up. It met the oz restriction but the container was too big. After 20 minutes of ranting and raving they gave him all his tools and his stainless steel shank back and let us roll right into the terminal.

Im still trying to figure out the terrorists come in all shapes and sizes. They have all looked the same except for that DB Sweeney guy and we just have a drawing of him. When is the last time a caucasian American hijacked a plane or tried to blow it up?

Since 9-11 every attempted attack has been foiled by normal people that just got harrased and molested by TSA. TSA has done nothing but increase government employment and make Americans miserable. Shobomber, Underwear bomber etc... They do nothing to increase security.

I got pulled aside one time for the patdown check. I have psoriasis and the agent noticed it as he was passing the wand around my arms. He asked me if it was poison oak. I told him it was. He stopped the check and said "you're good, go ahead."

My wife, used to work for the contractor that set-up testing/interviews for TSA prospects. If you were dumb as a sack of hammers and a black female, you were pretty much as good as hired.

There was a good article on Marketwatch.com the other day regarding the TSA "a" holes. Not all but a lot seem to be two bit thief's. http://www.marketwatch.com/story/10-things-the-tsa-wont-tell-you-2015-01-23?siteid=rss&rss=1

Negative. I'm paying for a service, it is the TSA agent who has the "privilege" of a job because of the patrons... I shouldn't be harassed to the point that it ticks me off for something I'm spending my money on.
