I hunt a place that is about 99% palmettos. Majority bow hunting and mainly because you can't see over 75-100 yards in most places. I've had most of my success finding small pockets or openings in the swamp. I love bow hunting this place because pretty much if you see a deer it's probably going to be in bow range. However I'd like to try and open up some more spots. I know the easy answer in paying someone to run a mulcher for a few hours but that's probably not gonna fit my budget right now. We have a tractor and thought about cutting these areas to open them but there's a lot of big hardwoods that are real close to each other so a tractor might be a tight squeeze. My question is have any of y'all had any luck spraying palmettos? If so what did you use and how effective was it. IF we cut them they'll more than likely grow back over time, wondering if we spray will that kill them for good. Or maybe cut the lanes or openings and then spray them. Never tried it myself but I figured or I'm hoping that some of y'all have been successful with spraying them. Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

Your best option is to cut trails and maintain them. There isn't a magic pill. Garlon is supposed to work somewhat but it is very expensive and kills everything else much better.

I figured cutting was probably the best option, I might try spraying some smaller areas until I find something that works. I can always spray the places we can't get to by tractor. Should of known if it were gonna be easy it would have already been done!
