Today my 7 year old was blessed with the opprotunity to take a shot at a doe with his Xbow. Needless to say we did not get the deer. I heard what I thought was the arrow hitting the deer, there was very faint blood on the arrow and not another drop. The deer spun and ran out the same spot where it came in. I watched it as long as I could and found where it ran, but no more blood. I did not see the impact..... so where do you experienced bow hunters think he hit the deer. I am thinking he clipped her high. Btw- I have never looked so hard for blood. I sure was hoping to find it for him!

Yep, sounds like a high hit.

Was there only light blood? was there hair? any slime?

If I had to guess, I'd say he hit her high, in no man's land, or guts, if there was slime and light blood.

Thanks for the responses. I am just trying to educate myself. With him in my lap i was just unable to see the flight of the bolt like i wanted to. Looking at the bolt laying on the ground I thought it was a clean miss. Upon examination the white fletching had just a slight tint of blood with two hairs and a little "meat" in the gap on the broadhead created from the blades deploying. There was no slime and virtually no smell to the bolt.

sounds like a high, through the backstrap type shot to me

Sounds like to me he just grazed her. maybe only cutting her with one blade. most likely top of the back. bottom of the chest usually bleeds some if you hit them there.

I shot a buck a couple of weeks ago hit right under the spine and right above the lungs. Great blood trail for a 3/4 of a mile (lots of blood). He was just fine. Two days later my friend killed him with a rifle while it was fighting off a couple of dogs.

I agree high back-strap type of hit, because of the meat and description of the bolt and no blood, would not surprise me if you see her again. But you never know.A good thing to do would have been to call a tracker in with a dog.A good dog will let you know if the deer is recoverable or not. I had a call from a youth hunter few weeks ago, the arrow was identical to yours.Put the dog on her she trailed it for several 100 yards then came back and told me he wasn't hurt.she wont track a deer if it isn't hurt.
