This is the second year in a row that me and my dad have taken some time off to hunt together during the second week of January. He works a stupid scheduled and hadn't hunted any this season. Last year January 12th I killed my biggest deer ever and he was with me. So yesterday I saw it fitting that I hunt the same stand as last year while dad hunted the very back of the property. Frankly my afternoon was terrible. I saw a button head at 3pm and 2 small deer feeding about 400yds behind me around 4:30. Right at 5 I hear him shoot and I hear the bullet hit whatever it was aimed at. Good deal!! Well he's old-schools do doesn't text so I have know way of knowing if it was a buck a doe or a hog. He did have a phone but I was going to call him. He'll either call me or I'll see him at the truck. He had chose to make the 1 mile walk from the truck as to not mess up the spot. I had a 600yd walk to the truck. I get there and wait expecting a call. Well the call finally comes and he says "well are you going to ever come get me? I can't drag her by myself". I told him to sit tight and I'll be there in a minute. I get there and park and ask where she's at? He grabs me and says "son I have to tell you that something happened to me tonight that hasn't happened in a long time. He said I got excited. Hadn't been that excited in a long time!" "Over a doe?" I ask. He said well no. A hog? No. A buck? Well yeah. We walk out there and he's killed his biggest deer to date. He turns 60 on Friday and still getting buck fever! I'm very happy that he killed him a nice one. He said a doe came into feild and then he saw another deer behind it. He the said $h@/ that ones got horns! Shot it at 170yds and ran 20yds and fell over. Thank god he dropped before hitting the cut over. Weighed him at 195lbs. Would have been a tough drag through a thicket. 2yrs in a row january 12th has been good to me.

If your decoy doesnt have holes in it, your not letting him get close enough... J.H.

That is an awesome story.. You have just inspired me to figure out a way to get my 64 year old dad out of the city and into a shooting house. He never had the opportunity to hunt through the years, but I know he'd love the experience.
