A warden I have talked to about this is against it as he sees it as a way to make it harder on regular folks and give the advantage to the rich man. He said he would consider all baiting legal then and not ticket someone just because they didn't have the money of someone else. Problem is all GWs won't see it this way.
BTW this is not the same warden referenced in the other baiting debate thread. I wish he thought that same about landowners, like me. I pay the state taxes every year on my own property. I own it, but can't put out corn... Now I am not supporting corn, because I don't feel like you can kill a grown deer over it.. BUT it's still my land.. And I know people that does support it... You can feed DW, 100 yards and out of sight. You can not bait, that being less than 100 yards and/or in sight.

actually 2dogs the reg plainly states "bait or feed".....
"bait" is put out to lure game by definition, how can a GW then arrest a hunter for hunting "over bait" when the reg says bait is legal??? Gw says it is acting as bait if a deer goes to it??? WTH, sure it is but the reg addresses bait.
Like I said confusing(in total) bait laws and regs, poorly thought out, and worded, and even poorer directives from Montgomery about enforcement.
State Supreme Court would overturn any conviction if one followed the 100+ AND OUT OF SIGHT RULE.

Never give any government more money. All you ever get is less freedom and more regulation. Apparently we're in the minority around here with that type of thinking I'll play on ya'lls team. I think the majority of people on here agree with this. Folks just making suggestions.

Once we could start legally putting out corn in GA, we started seeing many more deer on our property. Why? Because once putting out corn was no longer illegal it leveled the playing field for those that try to play by the rules.
The Georgia harvest data states that fewer deer were killed by hunters using the aid of bait. You say that more deer were seen. More deer were seen, but fewer were harvested? That doesn't add up. One of you is likely wrong. That's why keeping data is so important. It doesn't always happen the way people remember it. This same scenario has played out in other states where baiting has been made legal, like Arkansas. Bait is legalized and the harvest goes down. Just like all the bait stations that people use for trail cam pics, the deer tend to show up at night. The Georgia harvest data can be seen here (baiting in the southern zone was made legal in 2011). http://www.georgiawildlife.com/node/3335For quick reference.

I would venture to say that kill rates don't always mean less deer seen. People may be more selective on what they shoot once they start feeding.

The whole corn rule is stupid. There are much more important issues that the folks at the top should be engaging the public about other than corn. We’ve made an issue out of something silly that we shouldn’t even be wasting time debating. It should either be legal or illegal and quit making some middle ground that’s just asking for conflict. That’s what I can’t get about the rule. Anyone would have known that a rule written like this would cause all kinds of conflict…..yet it was passed anyways.

State Supreme Court would overturn any conviction if one followed the 100+ AND OUT OF SIGHT RULE. I know the law has the two ( baiting and feeding) combined. I thought this goofy 100 yard out of sight reg separated the two. But of course that's the problem, the folks in Montgomery and the GWs in the field are supposed to know and they are all over the map on it. So the hunters are even more confused. You are right the State Supreme Court would overturn a BS conviction on the goofy reg.

From what I've seen personally. Those that were corning before the new regulation still are. Those that never did still aren't.

just brought to my attention. My interpretation of OUT OF SIGHT does NOT mean the corn is broadcast into three foot tall sage that you can see the spot, but not the actual yeller corn. Shooting a deer standing IN the corn would still be a violation to me...... PS, my opinion is worth what you paid for it....

From what I've seen personally. Those that were corning before the new regulation still are. Those that never did still aren't. That’s not what I’ve seen. I’ve seen lots of folks using it as the go ahead to fill up properties with corn feeders and then push the envelope to the limit on how close to hunt to them. It’s not really their fault though….it’s the fault of a bad rule. The 100 yard rule by default creates the 101 yard feeder and is just asking for conflict to be created. It puts the public in an awkward situation and in a way is almost enticing folks to get themselves in trouble. It should be done away with and made legal or illegal period.

DW , sure no problem and next year they can raise it to a $1000 I don't care what they raise to. It's money in the DCNR pocket, to hire more wardens, and I am not buying a stamp anyway.. I swear, hunters will be their own worst enemy in the end.. you are free to send them all the money you want to now . my self i thing this would unfair tax/fee and never stand legally .
