I rarely see deer at blackwell swamp in wheeler; but when I do I mess something up. Today I shot a doe at 10 yards. 5 minuets later it starts raining so I climb down, my arrow had no blood just a little fat but I knew it was a good shot. after looking for a while I found a blood trail in the thick privet I track the blood for a while with the 3 flash lights i brought. The rain gets so heavy all blood washes away I end up lost and am down to my last flashlight. i knew that leaving and coming back is not a option with all the coyotes. my last bowkill was ate by coyetes within 1hr. so although I do like to give at least 4hrs of search. after 2hrs I end up using my last flashlight to find my way out of the swamp drenched to the bone.

dang, sorry about that. not that it matters now but curious what your arrow and broadhead combination was, and was it compound bow?

Dang, I know you got soaked if you were out there tonight! Hate you didn't find it.

No doubt the coyotes are thick in these parts.

I use a crossbow, Ive found they shoot best with muzzy 4 blade. the muzzys aren't the best broadhead for a blood trail but they are good for closeup backbone shots, which I shouldv'e done today. on a good lung or heart shot I usaully dont find blood till about 30 yards. Iam not good enough to hunt with my compound. because I like to shoot left or right handed seeing that iam too scared to stand up in a climber.

Dang man, that sucks! But, I am wondering why you are scared to stand in a climber? I am sure that you wear a harness.... I know that the top of a climber can move real easy but there id a product that Third Hand Archery makes that fixes that. I use them and I love them. I have posted them below. Sorry about you losing the deer.

Those straps are one of the best investments I've made.

this is my first year using a saftey harness, I will say that it does help with my fear of heights. the summit is pretty stable with one strap around the cables between the stand and the tree. i do have a 90's model compound that I welded a whisker biscuit on but I miscalculated the weld so at this point Iam trying to use the most reliable thing I got to score some meat.
