I'm working in Huntsville Friday and Saturday and was thinking about trying to hunt Bankhead for the 1st time ever. Staying with friends in Hartselle. Could someone point me in the right direction, prefer to not go on BW WMA. I'll be studying google satellite maps and topo maps, just looking for a decent region to go in blind and put my first deer of the year on the ground. Thanks in advance

And if areas of Black Warrior are just that much better I might be willing to do that, deer or pig don't matter, just want to shot my new bow! All I've pulled the trigger on was a yote last Friday down in New Brockton

I believe they are having a gun hunt on Zone B this weekend so no bow hunting but Zone A will be wide open. If you want to bring a rifle you should give it a try. They will be pushing deer all over the woods. I got a decent 9pt opening day there and will be back this weekend if all goes well. Good luck.

Well I am going to give it a shot on Sunday. Can't decide if I should go on A or B though. With the antler restrictions on B, it makes me want to head to A since I am not looking for a big rack, I still need to put some meat in the freezer.

Where can I find a map of all of bankhead with private land marked so I know where to avoid. I stopped Friday for the BW gun hunt and got the black warrior map, but thinking of staying outside Black Warrior in the morning

I think that a couple of the stores around there sell the forest maps but not sure. I got mine from the ranger station a few miles south of the check in station on hwy 33. It's not far from double springs and will be on the left going south.

There is a nice topo map of Bankhead made by Carto-Craft Maps, Inc out of Hoover that I picked up at Alabama Outdoors, 2030 Cecil Ashburn Drive Southeast #105, Huntsville, AL 35802. The Black Warrior WMA & the Sypsey Wilderness of the William B. Bankhead National Forest, Alabama map is very detailed, it's waterproof and covers 3D images, UTM, lat long grids, and GPS grids. I highly recommend their maps, http://www.cartocraft.com/ It works so well that I'm making a point to contact them for a James D. Martin Skyline Walls of Jericho map in hopes that they make one for it.

You can stay found with one from eBay, now - $17 shipped and more than 10 in stock http://www.ebay.com/itm/Carto-Craft-Map-...=item35da16600b Their Carto-Craft Map Hiking/Canoeing/Outdoor Recreation Guide for Sipsey Wilderness can keep those woods from becoming the wilderness version of the Bermuda Triangle.

Bankhead is way post rut, bucks are laying up and recouperating. Hunt the food sources.
