Anyone on here hunt wayne county tennessee for deer and turkey, do they get to hunt the rut? Thought about looking for a lease or club there next year to get an earlier start.

My future BIL is a game warden in Wayne county. Says here is a lot of trespassing night hunting etc. says it's kinda bad.

Some good hunting in parts of Wayne county, the rut is usually around Thanksgiving to first week in December. Poachers and trespassers aplenty as well, had to chase some off several times turkey hunting my in laws land. There was a female GW up there that was hard on them for a while, don't know if she is still there.

Turkey use to be plentiful but like all southern Tennessee counties it has fallen off hard to the point of its hard to hear one some days.

You put the fear of God in some people the word spreads fast. Being that I know most folks in Wayne, only the dumb ones mess with us.

Poaching is really bad there.

dont let the haters scare you. I am in a club up there. sure, there are road hunters, but where is there not. We still manage to kill come good ones up there.

Killed my buck on 11/20 this year. Ran into rattling, I mean ran. 5 yr old buck by the teeth. We believe they were already locked down and left the first doe each at that point.

I have been in a lease in wayne county for 10 years and hunted it most of my life. One time in 10 years I caught 2 kids riding atvs. Turkey hunting is great, not as great as giles county however. Deer rut from early nov thru the first week of december.

Depends on what part of county. Lutts had good deer and Turkey. My lease near the Buffalo River 7 miles north of Waynesboro off 13 was so so for deer and good for turkey. My lease right on the wayne, Henry and Lewis county line was horrible for deer due to recent black tongue, pretty good for turkey and full of trespassing outlaws that I battled with back when I didn't have good sense or much thought for mine or others lives.

There are no poachers or trespassers in Wayne co. It's the perfect place to be.

Maybe above hwy 64 people has changed.

BTW, call the TWRA and see how the turkey population is county wide compared to 2006. So good they had public meetings about it.

But come to think of it, I only ran two road hunters off last weekend one morning. Better than my average of 4. That's becoming more fun than hunting. Nothing like someone pulling over from their 15 mph speed only for me to pull in behind them and follow them until they leave my property.

Who is your future BIL going to be? I know one of the Wayne County GWs and just wondering if it is the same guy.

Good deer if you can keep, trespassers off, turkeys have died off and no solution in sight....
