I recently got a fully rifled slug barrel for my remington 1100. What type of slugs should I try in it first?

12's are a little more finicky than 20's on the higher velocity stuff because of insufficient twist in most rifled barrels (including yours I'm sure as I'm not aware of a faster twist barrel for an 1100). Hence, your gun might shoot the faster stuff great and it might shoot 8" groups at 100 yards. Just never know until you try. If I had to pick one fast shooting slug to try in it, I would go straight to the 2 3/4" Remington accutips though. Those things are bad news in a 20 gauge so I would have to start there if I were you. If those didn't shoot good, I would just go straight to something slower velocity and be done with wasting money. Here is my favorite all around slug. It is designed to be used in smooth bore or rifled barrels either one. Has shot great in both for me and ROUGH on deer: http://www.brennekeusa.com/cms/h_heavy_field_short_magnum.html

Word of advice to save you some time and money too. You might already be aware....but that ain't a rifle and you can't shoot it like a rifle on the bench and expect accuracy. Hold the piss out of that thing and don't let the barrel jump when you shoot it. Also, another word of advice....tighten the piss out of your barrel nut with some channel locks. Leaving a barrel nut loose will allow the barrel to shift and change your POI with heavy recoil. Been there, done that, wasted the money, and got the t-shirt.

I shoot Hornady SSTs (2 3/4") in my 12 ga 1100 as does every person that I know that shoots a 12 ga 1100 or 1187. I bought a box of Accutips but never shot one out of my 1100 because I was more than satisfied with the accuracy and terminal effects of the SSTs. Plus I have never had a problem finding the SSTs on the shelf around Huntsville. The Accutips can be hard to come by sometimes.
The Accutips were designed and produced by Remington for their 1-35 barrels so they should do all right.
I concur with Chad's slug shooting 101 tips!

Those accutips wouldn't shoot for crap in my slug gun. Even had two misfires out of 10 slugs. I'll never buy anything remington again
We will burn that bridge when we get there

Been a long time, but... Brenneke sabot slugs in rifled barrel w/ scope - Mossberg 500. ~3" 200 yd groups. They WILL shoot! Just realized I mis-typed 200 yds - NOT! ~3" groups at 100 yds. But I haven't seen the Brennekes very much lately. Tried to find some - no luck. Good to know about the Hornday SSTs
