I killed several with a TC Renegade caplock back before inlines became all the rage but always used a maxiball. Yesterday I pulled it out and sighted it in with a patched roundball. Put one through a doe this afternoon.

I always enjoy going old school.

Getting one with a flintlock is on my bucket list.

Pretty cool. I used to shoot those big 455 grain buffalo bullets but I've never fooled with patched round balls. I've heard they are very accurate. A buddy of mine tells a horror story of a hunting partner letting cow elk get away with one in Colorado. But there's a big difference in thickness if a whitetail and an elk.

Maybe it was me and the open sights but they were not that accurate for me.....It was putting them in the kill zone though.

Turned out I hit the doe right where I was aiming. If I had walked up and drawn a dot on her where I wanted to hit, I would have drawn it right where that ball went in.

She was with another doe and the only thing I noticed was the one I shot was running about twice as fast as the other doe after the shot. My daughter has young eyes and came to help me find her. We had a tough blood trail for about 30 or 40 yards where in some places we were down on our hands and knees. After that there was another 30 or 40 yards you could follow easily. Just took a little while to start bleeding good.

I have a .54 flintlock that my dad built from a kit in the late 1970s that I want to shoot and hunt with. Can't get the time to get to the range but I hope to soon.

Congrats on the doe, JLC!

got my first flintlock deer this year with a patched round ball. it was awesome. I was surprised how accurate a lead ball is in a true patched round ball barrel.

Thanks guys. To be honest when I bought this gun I didn't figure I'd be able o hit anything with it. I was surprised at how well it shot . I am by no means a great shot. It was easy to keep it on target out to 100 yards . I was worried the 45 wouldn't have the hump to get it done with a round ball. This doe was at 70 yards and it blow all the way through. I love it
