A few buddies and myself went on a weekend hunt to Sledge, MS last year and didn't really tear them up but it was about ten degrees and everything was frozen over. We are now looking to get a lease for next duck season in the area. A couple of the pit lease operations are Coldwater Duck Club and Duck Hole Farms. Does anybody have any experience with them or can vouch for a duck lease operation in MS? Thanks in advance!

I also hunted there a couple weeks ago it was 70 degrees. We killed about 30 ducks 8 being mallards and 2 teal. Some ringnecks and shovelers. was a good time for a 70 degree hunt we couldve killed 30 more but we had work to do on the blind.

You will always be better off making some connections and leasing from a farmer directly. That's my advice. Go out there in the spring and spend some time asking around at the local diner with cash in hand

There used to be a fellow by the name of Britt that leased ponds and blinds near Yazoo City. I went on a dove hunt with him several years ago. Not sure how you could find his information, maybe a Google search.

The hunting around the Greenwood area is good. I used to kill a lot of ducks near Rolling Fork on the Sunflower.

Try Dixie Sunrise Outfitters. They may have something.

It's all about connections. The leases I've been in have been through word of mouth. Better have deep pockets too. A decent lease will set you back about 2 grand depending on how many folks you have. And just another note. Make DAMN sure you can get along with your members. Duck hunting is a interesting affair when you start forming a club. I'll leave it at that.

I got lucky and am in with some good guys this year.

I'll add that you better have guaranteed water.... And you want kill numbers from years past. Fields are not created equal.

There are lots of wise words already spoken here. and read between the lines and in the gray areas. There are only 2 kinds of water in farm country anymore and that is permanent or pumped. No farmers hold water anymore just for the heck of it. Permanent water almost never comes open for lease. No fun staying in motels. If you can't cook at the duck camp whats the point! Pumped water is a different story. Also, Housing is almost always an issue in a new situation.
Reading back on what you killed...look at the quality ducks vs other ducks. It is an issue for some nd not for others

FWIW we have hunted in the Delta for years and continue. Just don't talk about it. Loose lips....
The duck hunting has gotten so sporadic we hunt specklebellies almost exclusively til after Christmas. And for the record, we have not put out a duck decoy this season. In the past few days a 130 mile round trip ride we saw about 40 birds (quality) and a trip which gauged at 78 miles the next day we saw about 30. Granted lots of good holes are where I can't see them but after so many years we do know where they normally are. And this was Bolivar, Humphrey, Washington, Leflore and Sunflower counties which ain't exactly piney woods in the duck world! and if anybody ever goes by Yazoo City that reads here...there were no ducks in the cypress brake on 49 yesterday...

One more thing...figure out how much you can afford and what it's worth to you and don't include anymore members than you have to!
