I recently got my first compound bow (gift from my fiancé, lucky me!!!). I just took it to the archery shop and got it tuned and set up for me, and am ready to start practicing with it tomorrow.

He told me I should get 125 grain broad heads, Ive looked online and it seems that the selection is slightly limited. Also, I saw that there are some that say they are specific to crossbows. My questions are: Does it matter if its crossbow specific, if I'm shooting a compound?

What would you guys recommend?

Thanks in advance!

98% of compound shooters on here, shoot 100 grain.
What is your setup, i.e. draw length and poundage.
That will help about fixed or mechanical.

Thunderhead 100s. Mine it exactly the same place as my field points.

What's your setup? It will depend on that. I shoot a 390 grain arrow out of a Hoyt Carbon Spyder set on 28" and 70 lbs. I shoot Rage Extreme and NAP Killzone Maxx and I get pass throughs like deer are butter. But if you shoot a low poundage or short draw you may want to stick with fixed heads. I like slick tricks if I'm gonna shoot fixed heads.

Should be fine with any head as long as the bow is tuned. I love Rages, they've always been good to me.

I like muzzys because they come with practice blades. 100 gr should be plenty and will shoot flater then 125s with yr set up. Accuracy and placement are whats important. Good luck

If you use muzzy get the mx3 or mx4 because the original muzzy 3 blade was designed for traditional bows, I could never get the OG muzzy 3 blade to fly straight for me. I really like muzzy mx3's, slick tricks, and grim reaper broadheads. All three fly like my field points. I currently have two slick tricks and two muzzys loaded in my quiver, I'll use the tricks first. I kinda like the way the tricks fly better. JMO.

Academy sells a small fixed blade broadhead made by carbon express that I like a lot. I've killed several deer and hogs with them and I've never had any trouble out of them. Something like 3 heads for 10-15 Bucks

With a 31" draw you will be perfectly fine with a 100gr. head.

I would shoot 100grain slick tricks, or 100 grain grim reapers if it were me.

I have shot muzzy 3 blade 100 grain for years and had great luck with them. I killed one buck with them this year. I just bought some NAP kill zones that I am going to try later in the year when I switch back to bow.

^^^^^ This.
Also, why buy one kind? I like trying everything I can get my hands on. For one broadhead though, I was impressed this season by the NAP Killzones.
Other broadheads to mention: G5 Montecs, Rage Hypo, Magnus Buzzcuts, Rocket Sidewinders, Muzzy Trocar, Ramcats, Exodus (great broadhead btw) & Thunderhead Razor.

fixed blade, cut on contact, nothing to mess up on ya. Simmons Sharks they have a land shark 125 and up to 190 gr. Heavier heads give you more penetration and only slow you down a few feet per second.

With that thinking, I guess you should stay away from compound bows as well. After all, they are mechanical also. crazy

I used the Rage Hypos and the Wasp Jack hammers this year. Both have done a great job.

Lot of good ones out there!..... I've used a lot of different brands and i would have to say that out of all that i have used slick tricks and ramcats are my go to broadheads. Fly just like field points and pretty good blood trails.

I used rage but every time i shot a deer they would bend even just the rib cage would bend it, so i was tired of spending the money on them other then that they get the job done.

I ended up getting some Rage X-treme 2's, they look cool...

however, I don't think I'll get to use them this year, all the deer disappeared...

I would shoot Ramcat's if I were you. I've shot a bunch of deer with Rage and they are exceptional on perfect shots, huge hole and lots of blood but Stick one in shoulder and it'll barely go in. Since I'm not always perfect I prefer the Ramcat. Muzzy and slick tricks are also good heads but my nod goes to Ramcat
