They had an average defense with Roof. It was all goat humping and cow tipping fun and then he got fired.
Ellis was the next great thing... and then he got run off.

Main thing I see right there is that when Gus and his awesome offense sputter and lose a few games then the Defensive Coordinator better have his resume dusted off.

I usually agree with a lot of what you post but i can't figure out if you are serious or just fishing. AU hasn't had a decent defense since before Tuberville left and giving up an average of 39 points a game over the last 6 games warrants a change sooner rather than later.

That 2010 defense wasn't bad from what I remember.

And they damn sure weren't that good either. Last defense I can remember was 04.

Average Scores

2009 - 33 - 28
2010 - 42 - 24
2011 - 26 - 28
2012 - HA HA HA HA
2013 - 40 - 24
2014 - 35 - 26

Looks to me like that offense is pushing the blame to the Defense.
I'm sure the Defense appreciates all those turnovers in the games that were lost.

I don't think Gus knows how to recruit for a balanced team. There is no concern for roster management. He's not going to pass up a RB or WR for a solid Linebacker or Cornerback. I think he's always going to recruit for the offense first and whatever is left for the Defense.

He and Sumlin are from the same school of thought and it's going to be tough for them to step away from that line of thinking. Gus said as much in his book. No matter who the DC is you can't make Chicken Salad out of Chicken Sh!t.

LOL. Keep in mind that we only scored 7 against UGA. That hurts that average.

It is not an offense problem.

But keep on, it's comical.

You can read. The defense is Auburn's issue.

We get that you don't want to see it fixed.

The problem one put up 630 yards and 44 points against the best defensive duo. He also has a proven track record to be he best offensive coordinators in the country. He led his team to the natty game, twice. He is now the head coach. If he feels his DC isn't pulling his weight he has every right to tell him to kick rocks. If Muschamp fails he'll tell him to kick rocks, too. Gus has earned that right.

Yeah I can read. Scoring one Touchdown is a defense issue.
Maybe spotting MSU a 21-0 lead with turnovers is a defense problem as well.
The defense did intercept MSU three times in a row and watched that powerful offense turn that into two awesome field goals and a fumble. I guess if they wanted points they should have made it a pick 6.
I wonder why the OC wasn't fired for kicking 5 field goals?
Gus can do what he wants, I don't really care. I'm just engaging in discussion.

I understand your position a little better now. You might have a point but I still believe the defense has been the issue. No, the offense hasn't scored every point it could have but the defense has been horrendous in my opinion. Some of it is talent and some of it is just being completely out of position. What tells me that preparation wasn't what it should be was the fact that the second half of most every game the defense seemed to be markedly better. It was like they hadn't watched film or had any idea what to expect in the first half of games. To have done nothing would have been to accept continued failure on defense, in my opinion.

Co-ordinators like to hire their staff, as long as Garner is there Muschamp and maybe others won't take auburn as a job. Dye likes Garner.

Your track record of being right has me feeling pretty sure that AU is about to make a great hire.

Garner is not an issue with hiring a DC. Nothing. It's ridiculous to think otherwise.

I think the offense has put the defense in the hole a lot this year. In almost every loss the offense started the game with a turnover. MSU, aTm & Bammer all started out with a turnover. That's working from behind the chains from the start.

In the case of the aTm game I think they started both halves with a turnover on top of ending the 1st half with a blocked kick for a TD.

The defense was obviously ready to play Clanga. Forced a punt on the opening drive and they had 3 straight drives where they intercepted Prescott. 6 of Clanga's 7 drives in the second half ended with a punt or turnover.
The problem was three of their scoring drives started inside the Barn 35 due to turnovers.

The defense was ready to play Bama. That first half and the first few minutes of the second half was a pretty good job by the defense.
Had the offense put it away then Ellis still has a job.

If we were only talking about a couple of games over the last two years I'd agree with you. They came out prepared in the Alabama game and were sitting on the short WR routes. Kiffen adjusted the routes at the half and it was all over. I can understand that in a few games the offense put the defense in bad spots but not in every game or even the majority of the game. You want to place the blame on the offense not scoring against bama in the red zone but don't give the Bama defense any credit for stopping them. Granted, they gave up 6 million yards in the game but they minimized the damage enough times to keep them in the game.

You're wasting your time, Dustin. Gus is perfect...zero flaws whatsoever. A simple change in defensive coordinators will fix it all. LOL

The standard Auburn coaching rapid flameout has begun, and once again, they don't even see it happening. Gus didn't even make it as long at Tater Tot did before the tumble began.

Just sit back, and enjoy the carnage.
