I won't be able to get into the woods until lunchtime tomorrow and have to climb out of the tree at 4:00. Hate to miss the sunrise and sunset windows. How far into midday have you shot a deer (aside from jumping one walking in/out)? I have the option of a stand over an old field (not planted) with vs a stand in the woods with a smaller area in view.

I've killed em as late as 11:30am and as early as 3:00pm. That being said, I've not every done a lot of miday hunting.

I have killed 80% of my Bucks between 10:00 and 2:00. It could be that I hunt all day most times though but the Bucks do seem to move during the mid day hours.

Hunt'em hard when they are hard to hunt but never, ever hardly hunt!

I have. never killed a deer between 11 and 2 so I quit sitting in a tree during those times. I get my work done during this time so I can hunt the pm. I kill 90% of my deer right before dark.

It's by no means my favorite time to be in the woods but I have killed several deer during that window. The biggest thing is hunt when you can and if that's the only time you can hunt then take advantage.

Mid day kills of bucks makes sense if you think about it. Lets say a typical mature buck is active right before dawn/at dawn then beds down, say around 6:25 average for this time of year. If I was a deer I'd probably get restless and want to get up to move, if pressure wasn't too great, after 3 to 4 hours bedded down . Add in that after 4 hours a deer needs to feed again anyway, so movement from 10am to 2pm seems to match my imagined deer patterns. Add in hot does to the mix during the rut and the bucks have even more reason to get up and stretch those legs during mid day hours.

The two largest deer that I ever killed were 1:30 and 2:45.

I am hunting midday today. All day really. Just wish I had some TP. Bubble guts are knocking.

I've stopped hunting midday. I've never seen a deer while hunting midday. I've tried sitting all day, tried just going from 10-2, tried getting in early in the afternoons and sitting late in the mornings. I don't kill a lot of big bucks so people always say sit midday, sit longer..... I've never been rewarded for trying any of these midday techniques. Deer move best first and last 30 min of light I don't care where you are

BTW- someone on the lease directly next to us just shot. If that answers any questions.

earliest one i've killed was 6:45 a.m. latest near sundown. most of 'em - by far - have been between 8:30 and 2:30. i've been figuring for awhile lots of deer move when hunters take that long break between 9:30 and 2 ...

The best deer I saw last year was a 16 inch short tined 8 point at 10:45 am. second week of bow season. I let him keep walking, but I stay as late as I can and go in early as I can in the afternoon.

I wouldn't consider hunting the 10'oclock hour midday. How many of you consistently kill deer after 11 and before 2? Not including jump shooting one walking in or out of your stand. It's a proven scientific fact that deer don't see as well in brighter light conditions. I would attribute Not being able to see very well Midday to the lack of activity during the day. Id bet most of the deer killed midday were bad weather days rainy over cast type days. Which can be attributed more to the weather than time of day.
