Was just sitting here looking at a hunting app I have, and wondering about moon phase. It lists minor and major deer activity times. Anything to this?

Might could be if there weren't so many other factors to figure into the big picture. Just way too many things to let deer use a regular pattern. I do know for a fact that a full moon will ruin a week of hunting season. Best advice is to simply hunt every time you get a chance.

So how does a full moon affect it?

Deer feed all night long and will usually be bedded early and late which are "our" typical hunting times. They will move during the middle of the day on a full moon.

Yes, however there are/can be other factors that will change it. Weather, hunting pressure are the main two.
If pressure is low and weather is normal (no extreme cold or heat, rain or snow) then more times than not the times have worked for me.

I tend to disagree about the full moon "ruining" a week of hunting. I actually enjoy it. I get to sleep in on those cold mornings and get in the stand around around 8 and I hunt till 1pm. I've seen tons, and killed several by doing this on Full Moons.

There are no rainy days...

Understood. Thank you

I'm hunting this year for the first time in over a decade. Just trying to brush up on everything. I have deer on trail cam, but the majority are at night. I have very few pics in the day time. And since gun season started, the few small bucks I had have disappeared.

Keep your own log each hunt then compare to lunar feed times once done. You may be suprised what it reveals.

I agree! Bout the time I think it has a big effect , I start thinking it doesn't again.

Seriously, I think it does, just not as much as most think.

I'm a lot more interested in what kind of wind there is where I want to hunt.

The only way I have been tracking wind is by a hunting app and the local weather. so far, the wind has been perfect- at least from what I'm being told. the realistic conditions could be different though.

I'll concede there's science behind it, and every now and then you'll see a movement when it predicts. But I've grown awfully dubious about it, and all but stopped even looking. My experience with the full moon theories is about the same as my experience with lunar charts....I know the theory, but it doesn't work out in practice. I don't ever see that midday movement that's supposed to happen. I just hunt the morning and evening like always, and can't tell much/any difference.

I've never really paid attention to it. However, I just deployed a few time lapse game cams for the first time this year. I saw an increase in activity during the middle of the day during the full mood phase. I never would has seen this activity without the time lapse feature.

I've killed deer in all moon phases and at all times of the day but one thing I have personally kept track of is barometric pressure; on a clear blue sky day with bp around 30 to 30.6 I want to be in the woods!

just like fishing. I go hunting when I want to go and do not worry about all that other stuff, like moon, temp, wind, and other stuff. That stuff I'm sure makes a difference but I don't care about it I just want to go and when I see deer that is good but when I don't I'm still good. Its not the killing I enjoy its sitting in a shoot house early in the morning with a little fog on the field watching the wildlife and leaving lives other issues behind. Just go hunting.
