My 15 yo shot a giant this evening. Blood started about 20 yds out of field. Dark red blood easily followed for a 100 yds with a cell phone light. Left blood to get a better light. Raining now and I went back by myself and couldn't find any more. Small pieces of meat. Thoughts? He said he had the cross hair between his horns and back leg, lol.

Sounds like a liver or possibly a muscle. How thick is the blood? Some time wouldn't hurt but if it's raining you don't have much of a choice. Did he ever lay down?

Dark blood usually associated with muscle. Deer has a lot of muscle to sort through. Good luck on your search.

I definitely wouldn't quit looking for a while. When i loose blood i try to track on instinct ,trying to think about where i would go if i was the deer. Alot of times in this case with a big deer especially you can follow their tracks, especially when you get to a ditch or creek. If you don't find him tonight, i bet you find him tomorrow with the amount of blood u got. Good luck hope yall find him.

I would definitely wait until the morning to look for him. Without seeing it the dark blood makes me think liver, which will kill him, but it takes a while.

Where you at I got my dog with me in bham and would be glad to meet you in the morning to help look. She's young but she's improved with every track she's been on.

Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

IMO, don't mess up the trail. Get a dog on the deer first.

Don't push. Leave until morning. Won't need dog most likely. Sounds like liver most likely

Take the dog first...multiple feet tromping around in the area will make it much more difficult for a dog to find.
