So the story starts last year in December. I've put the story on here before about how I heard and saw a massive buck kill a smaller buck during a fight. I nicknamed him "Killer". that was the first and last time I saw him last season. Fast forward to early November of this season... I see him, a veery long way away but I see him and he is massive. Huuuuge main frame 10 with a 9 inch droptine, just like he did last year although when he was chasing off another buck after he killed the one I thought he was a 12 with a droptine. I mean all of his points seem to be as tall as the one that comes before. He is as wide as all get out too, probably 23-24 inches wide at least. I've killed and seen some big deer but this guy dwarfs them all. Anyways, I begin to try cut him off but every day I see him, he comes out of a different area of the woods into the soybeans. And when so I figuredcame into the soybeans always would go the opposite away from where I was sitting. The second to last time I saw him he followed 2 does to within 80 yards of me. And I got a really good look at him. I Wasn't comfortable with a 80yard how shot. I'm not a "professional" scorer but this buck has got to be in the high 170's-180's. So I go out again the next evening and he is back out..again... Broad day light, about 175 yards away. So I figured what the hell, I might as well try a little light rattling an see what he does. Well it definitely caught his attention and he seemed very interested. Well unfortunately a small 6 point was right under me and spooked, well I looked up and killer and the does he was with were gone already. I did some doe bleating and eventually a lot of the deer came back out but at that point it was too dark to see what was what. I didn't go to the same area the next day and the day after that something terrible happened. That night I let my dog out to go do his business, his name is Buckley. After a while he didn't come back. I began to worry cause there are coyotes all around and he is just a standard sized Dachshund. Well he never showed back up to the house so I had to just sleep on it. The next morning I took of work to put out flyers and look for him. After putting up about 15 flyers I was going to a popular local gas station and saw something on the side of the road. So I turned around just in case and as I pulled up....it was Buckley. His head was crushed and tongue sticking out and back legs were mangled. There was a 30-40ft drag mark of blood on the road. I take a positive from this that he did not suffer. I was devastated, I sat there on the side of the road crying harder than I've ever cried before and was pounding the asphalt, bruised my whole hand pretty seriously. After a while I just picked up his body and put him in my jeep and went back to the house. He was about 2 miles away from home. Idk if he caught a scent or what, he was a hunter and loved eating wild game lol squirrel balls and dove hearts were his favorite. Well Buckley was well known by many people and by far the best dog I have ever owned or known anyone else to know. As the word spread friends and family began to show up and we had a flat out funeral for that dog that night. That was the closest thing to me to ever die. I've never been that tore up. I'm just now really getting over it and that was November 10th. I didn't hunt for days, didn't post on here, just grieved, I never new a dog could mean that much to you. So anyways muzzleloader season came and I finally decided to get back out and went back on the hunt for Killer. Well the farmers and cut the soybeans and idk if that bothered him or what but he hasn't came back out yet. So....yesterday evening. I get off work everyday at 3pm so I can always get me a nice little hunt in each evening. I decided to go back and sit on this big dead limb and see if he was around. Well some does came out and a couple small bucks came out and started sparring. A decent 3 year old came out and bullied the two smaller bucks into a patch of woods next to me. Well then I heard a pretty serious fight and some serious chasing around. So I slid down the limb and made a stalk to see anything. So as I was sneaking parallel with the large patch of woods I could hear the fight and I was getting closer and closer until finally the two small bucks cam running out of the woods across a small open soybean field. Then the 3y/o, and then 45-50 (maybe closer) yards in front of me a nice 10 point walked out. I threw up my gun and immediately knew it wasn't Killer but I let the 7mm rem loose and dropped him in his tracks. I walked over and idk I just reflected on stuff, life, death, joy, grief, highs and lows etc. and I felt content with what had happened. Then of course all the adrenaline and stuff kicked and I went showed all my friends and stuff. We weighed him and had him scored at the processor, a friend of mines place, he topped at at exactly 210 lbs and scored 151 1/4. He beat my 145 1/2 8 point! I dont care about score or anything and those are the only 2 i ever have scored. Oh and his tarsel glands were so rank that I had to wash my phone cover with hand wipes to get the stink off. They were actually dripping wet, the processor cut them off and vaccum bagged them for me to use while hunting. But anyways long story I know. But as sappy, corny, cheesey or whatever it might sound like, I dedicate this kill to Buckley, mans best friend and sure as hell my best friend ever. 10-31-2008 to 11-10-2014 R.I.P

Thanks again guys! Lol as far as mentioning about killer, I feel ok about it, no one knows where I hunt and my family guards it from all sides... Very thoroughly, they don't hunt they get pleasure from keeping people off their land haha 2 people hunt it, me and my dad.

we lost a dashund just like that one. one of them huge rv's smashed her flat.

Also, I live about 3 minutes from where I mainly hunt, mentioned above, on a soybean farm, probably about 40 acres of woods on it. It's surrounded by big woods though and my friend that lives next door killed this one there yesterday morning. Her woods connect to mine. It's a very young 13 point. Haha this is defiantly the time to say, "woulda been a beast in 2 years" but still a nice un and her best ever! Just shows that there must be good nutrition out here.
