Took my new AR in 6.8SPC out hunting Saturday afternoon. The property that I was hunting has a severe doe problem so after being in the stand for 10mins I had a big ol nannerhead on the ground. She was the biggest and oldest doe I have ever killed. She walked out on to the field and started blowing and stomping while looking at my shooting house so I put the crosshairs of the 6.8 dead center of her face and squeezed one off, DRT. After that I ended up seeing probably 20-25 more does and spikes, and a group of really nice young bucks. Right at dark I looked to my left and right at the edge of the field was a beautiful 8 point. I estimated him to be 4.5-5. He was probably 4in outside the ears with 6-7in g2s and nice dark antlers. I debated for a while on whether or not to take him but he didn't have a lot of mass and he had really short brows so I let him walk for now. Having grown up on a place where if it had a rack it died, this was the first mature buck that I've ever intentionally passed with the rifle. It hurt to watch him walk away and all day yesterday I was kicking myself for not taking him, but he'll be back. Out of the 6 hunters that went that day each of us killed a doe and saw tons more.

Your deer, your decision, but i shoot mature bucks, no matter what they are. He definately looks at least 4.5, and probably closer to 5. Probably as big as he's gonna be. Congrats, and shoot what pleases you.

Good job on trigger control by letting that buck walk. The more you pass the easier it gets.
