Bad day for my wife's family. The house she grew up in burned to the ground around lunch today. My FIL left this morning and his son, who lives behind the house, happened to walk outside and see the smoke and called 911. The house was vinyl sided with cedar siding under it and the old low pitch asphalt shingle roof had been covered with a higher pitch tin roof. That left a fairly large air space between the roofs and acted like a furnace once the fire reached the asphalt shingles. Fortunately no one was hurt. It was crazy how hot and fast that fire burned. Please send a quick prayer up for the family. Here is how it looked when I got there.  Here is how it looked when I left, several hours later and the crawl space was still fully engulfed.

Very sorry to hear this. Where is this? Curry, Al (right across street from Smith Lake. Here's another picture that shows how hot the fire was.  I had to back away right after this picture was taken. A box of 12 gauge shells started popping off that were in the garage just to the right of the front door.

It's crazy how many houses burn in Walker County.
