Just curious how early you get to your stand when hunting food plots?

By 8. I saw 7 between 11 and 12 on Sunday while fertilizing plots.

Anytime before dark works just fine.

Do you want to hear him gobble, or do you want to kill him.

I usually get in about 20 mins before daybreak. I got a new shift, 1p-1a so I'm gonna try going when I get up from around 8-11. Hopefully it'll work out.

Depends on the moon and the temp. Full mon I don't hunt till 9 am, any other time I'm in right at daylight. If it it is 30 or below I wait til 800 to get in, warmer right at daylight. I used to get in 30-45 min b4 daylight but I never see a deer that early. Always 730 or later depending on moon and temp. I'd rather stay late in the stand than get there too early. Killed many more deer between 9 and noon than between sun up and 9.

Do all ya'll hunt plots in the morning? The OP was talking about hunting food plots. I usually get to a plot by 3pm, although i don't hunt them that much. I have a stand where i can see a plot, but also can look down 3 lanes. Killed a bunch of good bucks from that stand.

About 20 min like Norton said. I want to be in my stand settled in before it's cracked light, but don't wanna sit there for an hour in the dark either

My cameras and personal siting indicate that deer move on our plots in the mornings once the sun is up good. Around 8:30 to 9:00 and use them through out the day. It's like they wait for the dew to burn off and then hit the fields.

depends on the moon phase. Full moon middle of day, no moon 1/2 hr before delight.

You talking deer, or mature bucks?

I try to get in as early as I can since I have to hike a good ways to my spots and then climb up instead of you spoiled guys with your private lands and lock-ons and ladder stands. lol

Default on fields is 3 hours before sunset ... woods in the morning.
Unless plot watcher shows me a shooter buck is using the field morning or mid day on a recurring basis.

You talking deer, or mature bucks?

This time of year its deer in general. Our rut starts around Jan 6th and we get pictures of mature bucks on plots morning/midday alot starting about Dec 25th until Jan 20th. I will add that most are not eating just walking through.

I've seen the most buck movement early in the morning, within 30-45 minutes of first light or sooner, no matter the conditions. They seem to get up and move before the does/fawns do. At this time they are usually cruising, not eating. I try to get in as early as possible based on this, full moon or not.

The question was about plots. My experience is in AM plots are used mid morning or after the frost burns off. We all know they are used alot late PM. I rarely hunt a plot in the AM, but when I do I slip in after daylight or stalk to them mid-morning. I like stalking them mid-morning if there's nothing out there or nothing that needs shooting , going to the next one, and so on.

In pm get there about bout 3 PM.

I rarely hunt food plots in the morning because of the frost. I'm in a club and it's first come first serve. I usually get to my stand just after lunch to make sure I get the spot I want.

I like clover plots in late Jan. Sometimes that big dark blob feeding before it is light enough to see is a good buck.
