I shot a doe on sunday afternoon and got to her and started looking over the entrance and exit holes. I was baffled. It was not how I remembered it. It took me a while of thinking back and trying to remember what I saw and what I told myself. I can now finally see (in my head) the shot. I thought the deer was standing the complete other way. I can not explain it and I was wondering if anyone else has had this happen. I can now remember my entire sight picture and talking myself throughout the shot and settling right behind her shoulder but immediately after the shot I was lost and confused.

I defiantly had a good hunt! Anytime I am bowhunting its a good day. I have been blessed so far this year. I have seen a lot more deer and have taken two does with my bow.

Early on I never remember aiming at a deer. I would shoot, and kill the deer, often a very nice shot. But immediately it would occur to me that I was just pointing my old pendulum at their body. I always talk to myself now..."slow down, AIM, slow down, AIM, crease of the shoulder, etc."

Even after all these years, I still swear somebody is in my ear yelling, "hurry shoot, hurry up and shoot" everytime I come to full draw on one.

I talk myself through every shot. Its my mental process... Its how I shoot and teach people to shoot... It is a very good practice to have..

This sounds like my case too. I used to just get a pin on them and yank it. I killed plenty but I also hit a few bad. Now I talk to myself the whole time to keep myself from rushing. It all clicked one day when I missed a doe and the initial nerves were gone and another doe stepped out. I took a breathe settled the pin and smoked her. I've been better since then lol

their reaction times are so quick, they can spin and duck and be facing exactly opposite direction by the time your arrow hits it's mark. it's really uncanny, you can do everything right and still end up with a marginal, bad shot or kill em deader than a hammer..

Had a doe one time that turned her head to look behind her about the time i touched the release. Stuck her right between the eyes. Instant diet nap. About 3 years later had a doe at 10 yards, bottom cam hit my climber rail and i hit her right in the top of the head. Had to stick another one in her as she was flopping on the ground. Sometimes crazy stuff just happens.
