Understanding the issues we vote on is very important. I know there are mixed reviews on Am 3 and Am 5 on this forum. Some good information has already been provided along with some not so good information...and perhaps some knee-jerk reactions. The Alabama Policy Institute, a very conservative policy think tank co-founded by Gary Palmer, has written some guides to all five amendments that will be on the ballot. Of particular interest to many of us on Aldeer are #3 and #5. Read what they have to say. Gain some more understanding of the issues and why certain language has been revised. Then vote as you feel appropriate. I am fully convinced after my own study, that the intentions of these amendments are good ones. I also think that the wording and language will do what is intended, and that is to add further protections to our rights and set a really high standard for any Alabama court to apply. Yet, we all know that Alabama legislation is often worded ineffectively, and that might be the case here too. Don't follow the lead of others without fully doing your own due diligence on the issues. These two policy guides below do a good job in showing how a "yes" vote is a good thing. But study on your own and make up your own mind. http://www.alabamapolicy.org/wp-content/uploads/2014-Amendment-3-GTI.pdf http://www.alabamapolicy.org/wp-content/uploads/GTI-amendment-5.pdf

Vote "no" on # 3....my 2 cents. People will twist "good intentions" to accomodate their own agenda. We already have in place laws that cover the people that dont have the mental maturity to carry a weapon.

Seeing this link below and seeing who in the house and senate voted AGAINST letting we the people vote on it is very telling IMO. Not a single vote against it with a R behind their name voted against it. The ones on the list are some of the ones whos record is anti gun. If it was something that would have benefited the anti gun movement in the future... Dont ya think they would have voted for it? If they were against it, its probably in our favor.
The following state legislators voted against placing HB 8 on the ballot:[7][8]
Senate
Sen. Linda Coleman (D-20) Sen. Vivian Davis Figures (D-33) Sen. Quinton Ross (D-26) Sen. Bobby Singleton (D-24)
House
Rep. George C. Bandy (D-83) Rep. Boman (D-16) Rep. Napoleon Bracy, Jr. (D-98) Rep. Greg Burdine (D-1) Rep. James E. Buskey (D-99) Rep. Merika Coleman-Evans (D-57) Rep. Juandalynn Givan (D-60) Rep. Dexter Grimsley (D-85) Rep. Alvin Holmes (D-78) Rep. Ralph Howard (D-72) Rep. Thomas E. Jackson (D-6) Rep. John F. Knight (D-77) Rep. Lawrence McAdory (D-56) Rep. A.J. McCampbell (D-71) Rep. Thad McClammy (D-76) Rep. Mary Moore (D-59) Rep. Oliver Robinson (D-58) Rep. John W. Rogers Jr. (D-52) Rep. Rod Scott (D-55) Rep. Patricia Todd (D-54) Rep. Pebblin Warren (D-82)

After more research today I'm going with Yes for both.

Trox, right now hunting and fishing is subject to laws and regulations...even if unreasonable or overly restrictive one day under influence of antihunting groups. Inserting a reasonable requirement gives the courts a stricter standard to go by so oppressive or arbitrary laws could be struck down. If or when it might come to that...proactive positioning.
My take.

I don't know what everyone's views are but I just googled "Alabama amendments 2014" The conservative views are to vote NO on the "even" amendments (2,4,) and YES on the odds (1,3,5). After researching this for the last day or so, this is in line with my views.

I wish they would write these things where dumb rednecks like me could understand them and make em a little shorter.

Dr. B I agree 100% Dr. B. I took the time to read over these myself. No on even and yes on odd. That's my vote.
