Why in the "bleep" do people think that they can put out corn and kill deer? Like put out a sack of corn and they are done.. Some people need to learn how to use corn for their advantage before going and putting it out. I don't give a dang if you have had a ton out for a year, if the wind is wrong you aint seeing anything. And I bet you there hasn't been a 4-5 year old buck killed over a corn pile in Randolph County.. SOme of these locals blame all there problems on the neighbors.. Ohh so and so has out corn, got all my deer pulled off.. Or Well so and so is gonna kill it so I may as well shoot it.. So that when I step in and say You dumb SOB look in the mirror and that's where your problem is gonna start on not seeing deer. When you do zero scouting or stay in your hunting area 24-7 you pushing your own deer out.. If yall aint ever been to Randolph county, I encourage you to do so.. laugh laugh

My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

the folks in our "club" are like that.......they'll put out a chit load of corn all over our property in all the WRONG places, then get pissed when we have almost ZERO deer on camera. we have at least 5 cameras out on 400+ acres at any given time.

but they won't listen to me about where to put corn/cameras. rolleyes

Don't put out corn, and only have one camera, that i use sparingly, before season, after that i'll only check it, when i go in to hunt that area. People toting corn in, checking camera's every week, hell no wonder they don't kill anything. You can get away with that on the tv shows cause them some dumbass deer in the midwest.

I feed year round. I have feeding stations. I get lots of buck pics. I ONLY check my cameras once evry 7-10 days and only at noon. I drive-up to them. I ware gloves and spray down with scent killer. I get the card out of camera and get out of area as fast as possible! grin

I agree in that most people putting corn out have no idea how to kill a deer and think it is the magic bullet. It also starts a cycle where they think they can't kill a deer without it.

I like for my neighbors to feed heavy. It saves me money

I think a buffet of corn will just make them eat it at night, but thats my opinion and nothing to back it up.

As much as I love to hunt but If the wind is wrong I ain't going. Period! Why chance getting winded when you can go back and hunt when the conditions are in your favor. And as far as corn goes to me A mature buck has enough sense to know that that corn isn't a natural food source in its territory. As much as it loves it and will eat it they will still approach it with extreme caution. And I agree with Ryano.

What's the difference to a deer eating out of a cut corn field, and a deer eating a 50lb bag of corn spread out in a field? Why would they not see corn as a natural food source if there are corn fields in the area? I don't think trophy rocks and salt licks are natural to the area, and I don't think anyone would argue that they attract mature bucks.

I knew I should have worded my post better. There are no standing corn fields where I hunt within at least thirty miles. Also, if you hunt hardwoods and start feeding corn in September and stop the first of October then I would think they would figure that out and they would eat it only after legal hunting hours. Maybe I give an old mature swamp buck to much credit I don't know but I've been had by them many of times.

If you are hunting a well managed piece of property and you see mature bucks on a semi regular basis, and then you feed them. You will still see mature bucks on a semi regular basis. If you hunt a poorly managed property that is pressured where you rarely see a mature buck, and then you feed them corn, you will still rarely see a mature buck. Corn doesnt majically make big mature deer step out in the daylight hours. IMO corn or no corn has a very miniscule effect on whether or not you are going to kill a mature buck this year.

Real simple...said it for years...back when it wasn't 'cool' to poach deer over bait piles...
But here goes...
Deer move for 2 reasons, eat and make baby deer...
We shoot them then btw...
They dont go wandering around...
Pouring bait out, on top of planting food plots which provides even more food...not gonna type out the arguments over food plots vs corn piles...but that provides a LOT more food...
Deer eat 2-5 pounds a day, straight corn isnt good for deer, but they'll eat it...same thing for rye grass...fed a straight diet of either a deer will starve to death...

Anyway, when you provide LOTS of easy chow, available 24/7...and deer aint stupid...been dodging us many thousands of years...You take away the need for them to up browsing in search of food...what used to take them a few hours wandering around to fill their bellies, now takes a lot less...lot less movement, means fewer deer sightings...especially when pressured...

They come eat when you aint there...and you (we) aint hard to 'pattern'...
Studies in places that do allow it show hunter harvests decline...and deer numbers go up...due to artificially provided chow ...reasons, some beside the fact the deer move less...You see fewer hunters every year, due to lease prices skyrocketing...
Bait aint cheap so a lot of folks quit hunting...arguments over stand sites etc....kids get carted to boring shooting houses, to see the same does and occasional small buck at the same bait pile...unless someone smokes that small buck...cause of course...
Im bored...he's a cull, and a WHOLE bunch of hunters cant do it in one area without the described...
We have to many members, lets raise dues and cut folks...
'he has it out, so I have to...
he has more out than me...I need more out...more food, less movement...
Like I said...deer eat 2-5#s a day...Know a guy who puts out over 6000 pounds of corn a yr, by himself...
Club has 4000 acres and 100 members...everybody puts out corn like crazy...Goodness knows how many tons of corn are poured out there...
Ever seen 100+ ATVs head out for the evening hunt...and the daily at lunch, corn runs?...
How much time, up and feeding does that take away vs natural up and browsing?
BTW, nobody sees deer at that club...tons of tracks, tons of night pictures...its thick as a Vietnam Jungle, deer feed at night...Have NO reason to move in the daytime...to much food, to much pressure...Club has tremendous turnover every year...

Back in the 70's that same land turned out over 200 kills a year, and some freaking war horses ...
Now they do good to kill 40....30 of which will be does...
