I plan on bowhunting Cahaba WMA for the first time this year. I have never hunted on a WMA before. Any tips or advice? I was thinking of ground hunting from a blind as opposed to carrying in a climber. Does anyone else bowhunt like that?

I WILL BE HUNTING FROM A BLIND WITH BOTH BOW AND GUN THIS YEAR FOR THE FIRST TIME SIMPLY FOR THE FACT WHERE I HUNT SOMETIMES THE TALLEST TREE MIGHT BE 12 FOOT TALL. WHICH AREA ARE YOU PLANNING ON HUNTING.

That place is loaded with big deer. Anywhere you hunt should be good.

I'm really not sure where I will go yet. I am using google maps to try to find some hardwood creek bottoms, funnels, etc. I will be on the side near Helena most likely. I'm considering trying out the smaller section north of the river along highway 13. I figure it would have fewer hunters but I could be wrong.

They bushwacked my deer parade spot from last year. I've been struggling to see a deer so far. With some of the terrain a blind would work just fine.

When bowhunting on a non-gun day, do I have to check in my deer before leaving?

That's what I figured. I could set up in a chair against a tree or in a blind up on the side of a hill looking down into a hardwood bottom and still see fine.

And Monticello , everybody had your idea about the 13 side. There's deer there to be had, but can be some tough hunting.

No kidding. I quit trying. All of Bham floods it blowing peacock calls and owl hooters. I think the turkeys go nocturnal.

A big portion of that is private lease now also.

Because of too many hunters or the terrain? It looks like there is only maybe 500 acres north of the river on the helena side available now.

I was referring to the whole place. I hunted it a couple years when I couldn't drive two hours to my club. I was hunting in Greene county flatland at the time. Going from that and seeing double digits of deer every hunt to hunting Cahaba WMA was disappointing to say the least. There are some BIG deer killed there every year though.

Little bit of both... If you wanna spot...You better get to the check in station early for deer season... But if you can get to the hard to reach spots by walking..You can get to some good deer.. They have alot of gates closed to drive in traffic..but you can walk around them to hunt...

IT IS WHAT IT IS A BIG CLEAR CUT AND STRIP MINE.. THERE ARE STILL GREAT SPOTS AND THE HELENA SIDE IS ONE OF THE BIGGER DEER AREA WITH ALL THE THICK ARES NEXT TO THE RIVER. THE HUNTING PRESSURE GOES WAY DOWN IF YOU GET CLOSE TO THE RIVER AND MID DAY

MY LAST TURKEY HUNT OUT THERE WAS A 2.4 MILE WALK FROM THE GATE. STILL HAD SOMEONE DRIVE PAST ME THAT DROVE IN ON THE POWERLINE
