After reading the fox news report, the officer stated that the dog he shot was coming towards him growling and showing his teeth. All I saw before he shot was the dog wagging his tail. So even though I'am not a fan of pit bulls that don't matter here. I didn't see a threat. It also said that the other dog was captured with out a leash by animal control. I think the 911 caller over reacted to what the dogs were doing and the lady and child in the car feared for their safety due to the reputation of these dogs. Just my 2 cents

Keep your dog's on a leash or on your property and this doesnt happen. I agree cops have been shooting too many dogs without justification but dont think this guy is in the wrong I agree with this to a point but have you never had your dogs get out without your knowledge. I know I have even though my lab is an inside dog that goes out to use the bathroom and play. I call myself watching but he does get on the neighbors every now and then. I would be quite pissed if someone shot my dog just because he was out and not hurting someone. I didn't see any aggressive behavior from that dog. Even though I don't like pits there is no need to kill if dog isn't aggressive.

Not enough info to make a decision...it was obviously younger dogs...It looks to me the cop was cleaning up a bunch of stray mutts for some reason...Just saw an article recently of packs of stray dogs attacking people in Chicago and Detroit...Know of one man who lost both hands and feet to a pack...The fact those were puppies doesn't count in an eradication effort...On a recent rat thread...do baby rats gets a pass?
Pounds are full of dumped pits / pit mixes...with basically a zero chance of being adopted. Can show you parts of Hattiesburg where theres pit mixes all over the place...ticking time bombs...But in thugland, having a pit to fight is a 'gotta have' thing...and think their gonna make a living selling pups...which simply creates more unwanted mutts...
Not proud of it, but I have taken care of some myself...I LOVE dogs...have 2 I think more of than I do most people...have had hounds the I felt the same way about but you have to feel different about hounds... Neighborhood I live in has dogs dumped regularly ...somebody dumped a HUGE Husky, he came up to me like we were old buddies, wanting rubbing...my oldest daughter cameo out whose maybe 5'2" and and 120 pounds and he tried to bite her in the face...One phone call to the Sheriffs Office and 165grs later that problem was solved...Somebody recently dumped a red female pit...she'd obviously been bred numerous times...she was very friendly and didn't show any dog aggression...I posted on a local forum about her...she had about a week...Some lady came and got her... ...but she wasn't living here... Neighbor down the road has brindle male pit mix...Hes a little aggressive, tons of kids in our neighborhood...neighbor has been told to keep his dog in his yard...period...
Best thing is keep your dogs, not necessarily hounds inside a fence etc...keep your hounds off other peoples property when hunting with them.....Spay or neuter your pets. I felt bad about deballing mine, but I aint gonna breed them...and most folks who have females really don't breed them neither...spaying and neutering helps with problems both sexes have...and don't have worry about males digging out chasing a female and don't have to worry about dogs getting to your female...

I'm not commenting on if the shooting was justified or not. I don't know. Certainly questionable at a minimum. Doesn't look like the dog was aggressive at that moment.
But I have been around dozens of aggressive "bad" dogs that bark and growl all the while wagging their tail. Some are pit bull type breeds, some mutts, some other breeds. We inspect many homes out in areas where guard dogs are chained to trees around the house or out back. Often they are loose. It is a running joke that the dogs are happy and excited to eat you...hence the wagging tail.

the dog didn't look agressive and I think the officer's story was a bit off. But, if the owner would have kept their dogs up, this wouldn't have happened. If you want to have a dog that is capable of causing such bodily harm and has the track record they do, then you have to be responsible enough to make 100% sure they stay put up. Yes, my mini schnauzer goes outside and wanders sometimes. But her breed isn't known for ripping childrens' faces off

Just my 2 cents Seems odd that he was calling a "growling" Dog who was "showing his teeth" too him, which further exacerbates his puny story.

A lot of people in the last thread about dogs getting shot said they would kill a man for shooting their dogs. Don't think I would kill someone over it but I would be pretty hot about it. There are other ways to handle things though.
