The common definition of "super group" is a group of musicians that were previously accomplished in other groups or had successful solo careers and they come together to collaborate on a project. The Highwaymen would be an example of a "super group". It may mean something else to others, but this is the context in which I've commonly heard it used. This is the proper definition of a "super group". Metallica, AC/DC, Alabama, etc are fantastic groups that have had unbelievable success but do not fit the proper definition of "Super Group". "Super Groups" are groups like Chickenfoot, Damn Yankees, Asia, The Highwaymen, Blind Faith, The Firm, The Traveling Wilburys and so on.
