My old case is about wore down to a nub and I don't want a gerber/buck throw away knife but I don't want to spend a small fortune on one. Any suggestions?

I've been looking at the case ridgeback hunter but I'm not sold on the new case knives yet

Mora 511 or any mora knife, they come sharp as hell and are easy to sharpen... I think we already talked about this on another post! Mora really are cheaply priced great knives. Hard to beat, also old timer schrade 152 are pretty good.

Yes it is. I wasn't sure either but after toting it for a few weeks now I wish I'd had it a while back.

I've always thought this was a nice practical knife for the money with good blade metallurgy

A tool salesman gave me one of these a couple years ago. May be the best I've ever used. They are priced right too.

What is a fortune?

A Mora is a good knife and easy to sharpen and is around $20.

A Buck 110 is still a good knife.

A Bob Dozier is around $200 and is an excellent knife and holds an edge a lot longer than the above. They will all do the job, you just have to sharpen the top two a bit sooner.

another custom to recommend:

http://www.geneingramknives.com/

these are great too:

http://www.helle.no/products/knives/

i bought some of these for my cousin to use and he really liked the odel
http://www.helle.no/products/knives/odel/

also this one
http://www.helle.no/products/knives/harding/

the ingram knives have an incredible edge and gene will resharpen for you. don't know if it's still listed but the 7 1/2 drop point is perfect for an all around knife and the semi skinner has the rounded blade and is great for not nicking the guts when working the insides

Preferably in the 100-125 dollar range. Nothing too artsy just a good solid knife with a stacked leather handle or wood.Something that'll hold up and last. I'm looking at one of the small bench made hunters but I don't know much about benchmade
