Family member is weighing options. Person has bought lots in their subdivision. Covenants prohibit livestock. That person has told them apparently now that they voted down changing them that he's going to do it anyway.
Her is planning on fencing and putting horses.
Any advice for them for you that have them and any legal experts here.

I am not a lawyer but I do know someone had to remove a small out building where we live or face a court of law. The new guy dosen't have a leg to stand on.

It's not a Passion, it's an Obsession. That's what I tell my wife, but she promptly informs it's a disease to which is incurable.

Horses will probably help out the value of the neighborhood. I have been told they are frowned upon in your back yard in Mt. Brook though. You can have livestock in Mountian Brook if you own more than 2 acres. I know of goats and pigs that people have. I don't think there are horses anymore. There used to be some close to Mountain Brook Club off Old Leeds. My parents had Will's first pony in their back yard for two weeks after Christmas 7 years ago.

Fella off Overton had an emu for a while.

That's why I don't live in a subdivision or city. I have a huge problem with somebody telling me what I can or can't do on my own place.
Two roads diverged in the woods and I took the one with deep ruts, hills and mud.It may be bumpy but WHAT A RIDE!

Resonable convenants, are a good thing. They are designed to protect property values. It takes an arrogant person to know before buying what the covenants are, and then goes against them. If you want to own livestock, don't live in a subdivision. I don't know of anybody that wants commercial chicken houses right beside them, except chicken farmers. When you go to sell your property and there are those smelly chicken houses, well, good luck with that. Some convenants are ridiculous. Like your car has to be in your garage, or you can't have a camper in your yard. But, stupid as they are, you know the rules before you buy, therefore you should abide by them. Typical american, rules are for everybody else. We bad about that.

Yep, I have 8 acres in town...not in a sub-division. Ordinances won't allow me to fence and put some calves on it. And I can't even petition to have the land re-zoned. All i can do is bush hog it or put horses on it. Think i'll just keep bush hogging.
The harder I practice, the luckier I get.
