Just PCSd here from New Jersey and looking for a place to bow hunt in/or around Montgomery. Willing to drive up to 35 min. I do not need thousands of acres of land and I actually prefer a smaller tract that is only hunted by bow hunters. Will only shoot a mature buck that I can put up on a wall but I will put some does down to fill up the freezer. Thanks in advance for any input.

First, welcome to the site! It's a nuthouse here but some of the best folks on the planet on this site. Now for what you're looking for. Check out Lowndes county WMA just about 30 minutes west of you. Lots of deer and it gets hunted but for a free place to hunt, you can't beat it. Plenty of clubs have openings withing 30-45 minute drive but you just have to check them out and see if it's a good fit for you. Keep checking this area of the forum.

I'm in Montgomery so if you need any help finding your way around, send a pm and I'll help all I can. Welcome again!

Dr. B

Welcome to Alabama. We have a small lease we just picked up in Lowdnes County near Braggs. We don't have any openings but I will take out and put you on some deer. PM me your number if you are interested.

Besides what eyedoc said, check out the Corps of Engineer land. They have a ton of spots in central AL that are open to bow hunting only. Much of it is prime river bottom land and all it requires is a permit that is either free or very little charge (few dollars). It gets very little hunting pressure once gun season opens. A bonus about Lowndes WMA is that it has plenty of wild hogs for target practice.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.
