I was out doing some field work yesterday between Kosciusko, MS and Louisville, MS on Hwy 14. I was admiring the deer tracks when I came across a what I initially thought was bear track. I now know that a bear track has 5 toes. Stupid me. The bic pen I laid down for reference I just measured at 5 1/2 inches on the button. I am sure we will come to the conclusion that it is just a dog but I don't want to cross paths with it with only a bow in my hand. Are there wolves in MS?

What do you need?...

I was going back to camp last year on the club I hunted in Pickens county, when way out in front of me about 300 or 400 yards away I saw what I thought was a black deer cross the dirt road I was on. I don't think there is a house within a half mile of where I was at the time but after gassing the truck to get up there, it was a giant black great dane that I had seen. Some people would have seen a black panther I am sure but my thought was BLACK DEER!! I would have hunted there the rest of the season if that dog had went in the woods where I couldn't see what it was, haha.
Lead, follow or get the HELL outa the way!

Hummmm....looks like about a 2.5 year old female......not favoring any one side so she don't have a collar on.....looks like she may have eaten a quail egg earlier that morning.....and also looks like she needs to crap.
What would REALLY help me clearly ID this track would be another Pic of Jennifer Love Hewitt.
Hunt'em hard when they are hard to hunt but never, ever hardly hunt!

My bloodhound leaves a track that big.

Our neighbor has a couple of Great Pyrenese dogs and their tracks are that big.

Thanks SFC3. The bear track also has 5 toes on the track according to google.
I have seen a lot of dog tracks in my life but never ran across on the was 5" long and nearly that wide. As mentioned in the original post the pen is exactly 5.5" long. You're welcome...
