central ala,
Saw one dead in Autauga Co. yesterday. Have never seen one that far north. Can't understand why of all the things that have invaded through the years that we once didn't have (coyotes, armadillos, etc) there has only been one good one-the ring neck dove. Why can't we get pheasant, elk, and such?

Been here 40 years. In the woods EVERY day. Timber rattlers everywhere. Never seen a diamond back.

That's right. I have breakfast with a group of construction, land, timber, and farmers every morning and none of these have seen one in Autauga either. Always timber rattlers. May be like black panthers. Some see them, some don't.

Did you take pictures to post. It would be neat to see one.

Seems like down here Hwy 84 is the line - never see a diamondback above hwy 84.

A while back, I mentioned having seen one in south Talladega county. It was highly insinuated that I didn't have a clue what I was talking about. But I know what I saw. Coral snakes aren't supposed to be this far north either and they've been documented on the Coosa WMA. Maybe the snakes can't read the lines on the maps. FWIW.

I can give you a "how far south" report is all. Dauphin Island. I still have no idea how they've survived the island being covered in water during the hurricanes over the years but they are there. Killed two on the west end driving it as a teen, both in the same evening.

Any souther than that and they'd be swimming. grin

Seen a 3 in a total of 2 years wheni lived on little lagoon in gulf shores(ft.Morgan side. My uncle's place where i stayed was a few houses down from the wildlife preserve. That was nearly 10 yrs ago. 1 of them was a freaking wake up call. It was in front of the pier by the seawall. Cotton mouths were all over the place. Neighbor was changing belt on his lawnmower, bent down stuck his hand on the deck and WHACK! Nailed him on the hand, what a nasty bite. Good size gators in the lagoon also. They'd harass you when fishing at night.

central ala,
Brent, I find that to be a very accurate map. That is why I posted about seeing one in Autauga Co. I thought it was highly unusual. Throughout the day I have yet to find a farmer, timber person, or land dealer who has seen one in Autauga. Most just said I was full of #$^$ or I didn't know what I was talking about. I have seen them before in south ALA. and KNOW what I saw. Kinda like the people around here who started seeing coyotes in the late 70's
