My opinion. It would be 200 yards max. That is with a well place shot. That's with a lead tip bullet. Not them gay plastic tip things. grin

I wouldn't hesitate to take a 200+ shot. I had mine patterned an inch high at 100. With handloaded round nose Hornadys in 150gr I could print a pattern you could cover with a quarter at a 100. Never shot the Leverevolution in 30-30 but they are amazing in my .35 Remington.

At 200 yards the plain old Remington Core-Lokt soft points retain 858 ft/lbs of energy with the 150 grain bullets and 989 ft/lbs with the 170 grain, so without the *gay* Hornady LeverRevolution bullets I don't think I'd personally want to go much past 200, since medium sized CXP2 class game animals generally require about 800 ft/lbs of energy from a .30 caliber bullet to do a predictably adequate job. YMMV.

I know from experience they will kill at 150yds, never shot one further than that with the 30/30 but I would feel pretty comfortable at 200 with it.

Hornady's LE makes the .30/30 a legit 200 yard deer gun.

Only hits count.

Hornady LE max shot 300 yards, any other premium factory load 200 yards.

I have never killed a deer with a 30-30 but my dad is old school and has the same one he bought a week after he got home from Vietnam in 68.He has killed many at 200-250 yards and several coyotes.I think what matters is the same thing that matters with any rifle and that is knowing your weapon and what it is capable of.I have a 22 that I drilled the eyeball on a coyote at 75 yards with but it's because I grew up with it and made many shots on everything from crows to possums with it.

I'm on a mission this year. I've been having my 30/30 for about 20 yrs and never killed a deer with it. I am goin to hunt with it this year until I kill a deer with it. No scope just iron sights. I'm goin to be shooting the 170gr corloks

Anybody remember the hunting show where a guy was going to take every N. American big game animal with his Dad's old iron sighted 30-30? I remember him killing a moose, and possibly a grizzly, but never saw it again. I am curious if he ever did it, and if anybody remembers who it was.

If I am not mistaken, that was John Wilson.

Only rifle I own for deer hunting. I cant think of many places that I have ever hunted that I would need to shoot 800yards.
