When does everybody fertilize? The day of planting or after you see green? I get mixed reports that unless you spread a slow release fertilizer when you plant, you are wasting money because it will all burn off before it helps the plant. I need it to be a "one and done" trip but I do not want to waste my time or money. I have 15-10-5 and pelletized lime.

We fertilize when we spread the seed and then drag. Never had a problem.

Take your kids hunting instead of hunting your kids.

I'd rather be LOST in the woods than FOUND in the city.

Drive a hybrid, I need your gas.

Your mind is your primary weapon. Never let it get rusty.

Which will be easiest for you ? I always put both out same time. Despite what you have been told you will not get a one time feed and then done; but as plants grow they may need a supplemental feeding especially if they are grazed hard. I sometimes will hit with ammonia nitrate if we have warm weather and rain. If you are in LA no problem but in N Al the cold is a problem. cool

Just to stir the pot. I wait till my plants are up 2-4". The plant need nothing to reach this stage of growth. When the plant has a root system, which is what is needed to take up the nutrients, I put out my fertilizer. Its a 18-12-12 with a phosphorus additive that almost quadruples the amount of P that the plant can take up or be available for uptake. P is essential for root growth and is labeled as a starter element when laying sod or planting. One time application and your done. Can you make your fields produce more by pounding it with N, yes but we have never had our eaten to the ground so we dont push them that hard. Southern states makes the fert and im sure a salesman would bring it to you if you order at least a pallet which is 10 acres worth at 15-16$/bag but I also buy 30 tons of fert a year from them so dont quote me on price.

Give me bout 15 more minutes, I was dreamin about beavers..........
