What kind of mental techniques do you use? Just trying to learn something Here...
You are in a stand 20 feet up Your single pin sight is set to 25 yards A deer is 35 yards away from you What goes through your mind as you take this shot?
Again, 20 feet up and sight is set to 25 yards A deer is 15 yards away from you What goes through your mind as you take this shot?
I don't want to pass quietly into the night. I want to slide in sideways kickin and screamin Life really is awesome ... Soak it up while you can ...

Depends did you sight in at 20 feet up in the tree if not Then the deer at 35 yards hold dead center in the lungs Deer at 15 yards aim at heart.
Pull back, anchor, Pick the one hair that you want to hit, Release, Don't think about anything but that arrow hitting that hair.

I've got a single pin HHA optimizer sight and it is adjustable. In these questions I am assuming that the pin is set to the 25 yard mark. Marks were measured on the ground, not in a tree.

sighting in from the ground to sighting in from a stand can make you shoot Different.
If sighted in on the ground with one pin set not movable at 25 yards Than shooting from 20 feet up you will shoot really high at 15 and a few in. low at 35, depending on bow of course. You will also Probably shoot high at 25 yards from 20 feet up but only by an inch or two.
I have adjustable but it is locked on at 30 yards. I If I sight in on the ground I shoot about 2 in. low at 30 that will put me about 2 in. high at 15. In a tree at 30 I am dead on and at 15 I will be about 4 in high so I aim at the heart on any deer closer than 20 yards. If he is at 35 I still aim dead on for lung shot and it drops right in there even if he jumps a little.

I don't seem to have that problem. Might be because of 5 pins and 320fps.

I always aim bottom third. Find a hair and bury the pin.

Im watching the deers eyes and head and picking fractions of a second to make my moves when they are looking away. Once I get to draw instinct takes over, I just have to MAKE myself aim LOW.

Thats a great chart, it does all the trigonometry for ya.
Now another question ...
- Your single pin sight is set to 25 yards - A deer is 35 yards away from you ACCORDING TO YOUR RANGE FINDER, NOT GROUND DISTANCE
Also :
- Again, 20 feet up and sight is set to 25 yards A deer is 15 yards away from you ACCORDING TO YOUR RANGE FINDER, NOT GROUND DISTANCE
How do you adjust for the drop then? Surely it's going to have an effect of some sort

I have all of these routines I do when practicing, when there is a 90 lb doe standing there, all of that goes out the window. Get drawn, anchor, good release and hope all your practice and hard work shows.

At 35 you will be maybe 2-3 in. low depending on your bow. So if you aim like most do at the lungs in the middle your arrow will drop perfect. Even if the deer jumps the string a bit it should still put you in the kill zone of double lungs.

The first scenario I pass for a closer shot. The second scenario I get in position to draw(which I've already practiced), pick a small spot on the deer's kill zone and stay concentrated on it all the way thru the release. Then climb down and go get the truck and some dragging help.

Put the pin 2" above the bottom of the deer's chest in both cases. At 15yds you will hit a little high but the deer will not have time to duck the arrow. At 35yrs you will hit low but at that distance the deer will have dropped a full body width and drop right into the arrow. That is if the deer decides to react, but that is something you cannot control. I read an article one time that said 50% of bucks make some attempt to jump string but 95% of does do. In my experience this seems to be true. I always aim low.

If you look at that chart, you'll see that in the first example the horizontal distance is 28.7 yds (about 6 yds less than your rangefinder). So your pin is set on 25 yds, right? Put the pin right square in the vitals... Second example, no numbers charted for that scenario, but 20 ft up and 15 yds (rangefinder), it's gonna be less than 10 yds horizontal. Gonna have to aim little low. I keep my single pin sight on 28 yds...if the deer is 10-15 yds, I aim a couple inches low. 20-30 right on, and 35 yds (my personal max) I aim couple inches high. All you really need to remember is that if you're 20 ft up the tree, then whatever distance you see on your rangefinder will be LONGER (by 6-10 yds, out to about 40 yds) than what you need to account for. The arrow is only acted on by gravity for the distance that it travels parallel to the earth, or rather only the horizontal distance.

Here's one, you have one pin, a 20-25 yard pin, you are 20 feet up, deer at 5 yards, where do you aim?

That's why I like a multi pin set up. I don't have to hold over or under. I sight it in on the ground and it's the same at 20' or 30' up a tree.

This chart is only using the Pythagorean theorem. There is more that comes in play. Gravity as well as speed of your bow. I found this out when I got engrossed in an argument. If you look at high end rangefinders they have a programmable feature for arrow speed. It then figures arrows speed gravity as well as theorem to figure the true trajectory. So don't take this chart as a true fact. You will find yourself knocking mud of your broad heads and not lung matter.

I have a rangefinder with the angle compensation / true distance feature on it. Most of my loc-on's are 20 to 22' high. Those numbers on that chart are off compared to the readings I get from it. The most I've ever had it compensate is 4 yards. Guess I should've been missing all of the deer I've killed the past 5 or 6 years. I've got the chart saved on my phone. I'm going to try a few practice shots using it.

So far my takeaway from all this is ...
1) Measure yardage from the ground with a rangefinder and make a mental note of the 10, 20, and 30 yard lines. Use for setting pin distance no matter how high I am up a tree and regardless of what rangefinder says from the tree
2) I'm going to Redstone Arsenal Archery range today to see if they really do have elevated shooting stands to practice from
I don't want to pass quietly into the night. I want to slide in sideways kickin and screamin Life really is awesome ... Soak it up while you can ...

Alright y'all...looks like i messed up on the chart. Although the chart is correct, all those numbers are in FEET, not yards. Big difference, obviously..
So when you do the math using YARDS instead of FT, here's what i get:
For 35 yds, it equals 34.2 yds (yeah, i know big deal) For 15 yds, it equals 13.2 yds For 10 yds, it equals 7.1 yds.
This is all assuming your stan is 20 ft (approx 7 yds up)
Sorry y'all! I thought those numbers looked a little off

Exactly. My rangefinder has never corrected more than 4 yards and that was within 20 yards.
