Too much thinkin' for me. Those are easy.

Here's one, you have one pin, a 20-25 yard pin, you are 20 feet up, deer at 5 yards, where do you aim?

That's why I like a multi pin set up. I don't have to hold over or under. I sight it in on the ground and it's the same at 20' or 30' up a tree.

Well, if you're 20 ft up a tree (which is about 7 yds), there's no way the deer is only 5 yds (unless he can climb a tree)!

OK, deer is 5 yards from the base of the tree then. rolleyes

Aim 4" high from where you want to hit. This is why I use multiple pins. In this case I would use my 40yd pin. Be sure to bend at the waist and not lower your bow arm.

Do you practice at 5yds or less out of a tree or have you killed deer at 5 or less from a tree?

Practicing at that distance is important. Once, I killed a 12 point at 2 steps from my tree.

I have killed deer this close and closer and also practice this shot from a tree and from the ground. Shooting 3d competitively you better be able to hit this shot because your competitors can.

Hmmmmmm. If I shot my near pin and held 4" high or my far pin dead on I'd spine him/her.

This chart is only using the Pythagorean theorem. There is more that comes in play. Gravity as well as speed of your bow. I found this out when I got engrossed in an argument. If you look at high end rangefinders they have a programmable feature for arrow speed. It then figures arrows speed gravity as well as theorem to figure the true trajectory. So don't take this chart as a true fact. You will find yourself knocking mud of your broad heads and not lung matter.

Actually, your arrow speed or bow setup is irrelevant. If you are 20 ft up in a tree, and you shoot at a target thats 35 yds away, the arrow will fly as if it was only a 28 yd shot...assuming of course you sighted in your bow on the ground

Correct!

Who the heck has time for charts when it's "moment of truth" time anyway?

I have a rangefinder with the angle compensation / true distance feature on it. Most of my loc-on's are 20 to 22' high. Those numbers on that chart are off compared to the readings I get from it. The most I've ever had it compensate is 4 yards. Guess I should've been missing all of the deer I've killed the past 5 or 6 years. I've got the chart saved on my phone. I'm going to try a few practice shots using it.

There is an issue with the chart posted on the ArcheryReport. The chart is measures in yards not only for the Actual Distance to Target but the Height also. If your tree stand is 20 feet, then that is roughly 6.6 yards on the chart.

I for one, climb a poplar tree in my back yard and shoot from it almost as much as I shoot from the ground. It's not a direct answer to your questions but I suggest climbing a tree and have someone go set your target at random distances and see how you do. My wife helps me out a lot in fetching my arrows for me. (she's a goodun)
