I JUST PICKED UP A COUPLE HUNDRED ACRES OFF HWY 47 IN AROUND AWIN. I HAVENT MET THE NEIGHBORS YET SO IM NOT SURE WHAT THEY ARE SHOOTING, IF ANYBODY HAS HUNTED AROUND THAT AREA, WHAT CAN I EXPECT HORN/BODY SIZE. NO TRAIL PICS YET. I PLAN ON SHOOTING 4 1/2 AND UP.
THANKS IN ADVANCE (I KNOW IT ALL DEPENDS ON NEIGHBORS AND THE LAST PEOPLE TO HAVE IT)

Unmanaged for mature deer, the area is good for a nice good buck goin in the 115-120 range. I have seen some studs come off some managed properties in the area. I known of some over 140 and one 176 that have been taken not too far from there both east and west.

Us and the Florida club is right down the road on the left right before you get to Old Texas. Come down and say hello.

I've been hunting there for the past ten years and as far as the hunting goes in that area it's really tough to kill older mature bucks. I always say those deer down there start smelling you the day before you start hunting. As you know it's a very remote area with a lot of pines and the majority of the food source is green fields. I've seen some nice ones and we've killed a few but 90% of them were taken in the last two weeks of January and on heavily traveled trails in thick, thick stuff. Good luck and I hope you enjoy your new place.

We are right down the road from you in Pine Apple. The area is good but not great. We have killed a few in the 120's. I have had several good ones (140's) on film over the years but they were smarter than me. I shot a 130 class deer a few years back but lost blood and never found him. Our neighbor killed a 141 and a 130 about 5 years ago. We literally had thousands of pics of that deer. There are good deer around here and some properties hold better deer than others. Hopefully you got lucky on that front.

Like you said, neighbors have a lot to do with the size of the deer.
