My dad had 4 sisters and all had a form of dementia or Alzheimer disease, some worse than others. My dad has been repeating himself for a couple of years, telling me the same thing 3-4 times within minutes of each, progressively getting worse but about 6 months ago he no longer recognized me or my brothers and sisters and only spoke replies to questions with a simple yes or no. He does appear to recognize his wife, who takes care of him daily and she use to be a nurse years ago. My dad was also diagnosed with prostate cancer within these last 6 months and is being treated with a pill and a shot every 4 months. My step-mom called me 2 days ago ecstatic that he seemed to had a reversal back to the condition he was in 6 months earlier and is talking in sentences, but still repeats himself over and over. He said he wanted to come to Pensacola and see his children the next day and i arranged to meet them in Baker to drive because step-mom not comfortable driving in city. He recognized me and when he saw my sister he recognized her and it was a wonderful reunion. My step-mom told me that she had ordered some medicine from a Dr she saw on TV that said he developed pills that help with the brain function and that she had been giving it to him for a couple of weeks and wondered if it was these pills or something else. (The something else is the power of prayer).

That's an aewsome blessing. Prayers sent for continued progress.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

fireman,

So very glad to hear a positive report about Alzheimers. And yes, I believe in the power of prayer and the positive effects it can have.

I'm curious as to what drug your step-mom was giving him. Reason is that I've got an uncle who has just stepped off the deep end of the pool regarding Alzheimers. Can't help but wonder if it might help him.

Went through much the same with my mom; you are in my prayers. Alzheimer's is a terrible disease and is usually more tough on the family and caregivers than the person. Find humor when you can, comfort from those GOOD days, and when they do something that could make you mad, don't get mad @ them but @ the disease.coachg

It's a horrible disease. My father is in the final stages and it's rough. Enjoy the times of clarity.

I just wish I had asked more questions when they could have been answered.

I would like to know the name of the meds she gave him.
My dad is in early stages right now and I would like to research what it is.
Thanks for sharing and I am glad you were able to communicate with your dad.

Well if you were praying before she started giving him the pills and he recognized you after he was taking them. I'd says its the pills. Either way I'm glad you had a great reunion with him, I'm sure it meant a lot!

That's great news Fireman176. My Mom is at the stage that she is starting to not recognize close family. She lives with us and knows who we are, but doesn't recognize my brother that she only see's once every week or two. It is good to hear something that is encouraging about such a horrible disease. She has several of us praying for her several times every day, and I believe that Gods answer to these prayers could come in several forms, even in the form of a new drug that could help. I would like to know about the meds also. Prayers for your father also.

I hope this works out for you. We just lost my dad to Alzheimer's on Sunday. Ruthless disease.

Procera AVH is the name of the supplement, but I would caution everyone to do their homework on these type products. It may have been what helped him but who knows.
