this may get interesting but unfortunately there won't be a video. A friend of mine has a really nice hornet's nest hanging about 4 feet off the ground on a cedar tree. I'm gonna go into stealth mode at dark 30 and bring it home.

I scoped it out at noon today and they only have one entry/exit hole.

The hole is more the size of a tennis ball and I ain't sticking my tripod leg in there although it would plug the hole.

Curious as to why you are going to get it now instead of waiting until cold weather and getting a hornet free hornets nest?

Maybe spray the inside of a bag down with half a can of wasp spray. One guy puts it over the nest and the other duct tapes to the limb. After cutting the limb off the next day put it out in the full sun to bake them dead??? Ive never done one, but would love to have a nice big nest

I always thought crazy chit like this only happened at my cousin Boo place in Louisiana involving some voodo beads, chicken feet, hot sauce and crackers.

In my hornet suit....



Well.......... it didn't go as planned ........... this nest is bigger than a 5 gallon bucket

So, what happened was, I went over just before dark and walked right up to the nest and looked in the hole. Nothing was moving. I ease off to my friend's shop abouy 100 feet away and under the street light to get geared up for the mission. he and his brother are sitting inside the shop with the lights on (this is important later) drinking beer and asking if I REALLY want to do this. I put on my goose down coveralls, my chem gloves, pulled on a dark colored tee shirt with my face showing in the neck hole and donned my famous deer killing black fedora. Crocks....I fergot my boots so I'm wearing crocks. Then I opened the can of Foaming Wasp and Yellowjacket Killer that I bought at Lowe's just for this mission. This stuff comes with a little straw tube like WD40 except longer. I'm thinking it'll be perfect to squirt this foaming death upon the flying demons within said nest. This is gonna be fast, simple and over in 15 minutes.

It is now officially dark.

Upon returning to the nest I turn on my brighter than daylight (this is important later) Fenix PD31 and shine in the hole and simultaneously run the tube up in there and commence spraying. This is taking place about 2 feet in front of me at chest height. The hornets have now become confused (I'm guessing) by the fact that it's already daylight again and something is invading their nest and it's having a delayed but deadly effect on all of 'em that come in contact with it. The delayed part is REALLY important. They are dropping and crawling down into the hole and getting covered by the foam.....most are anyhow. I continue spraying until some of the hellions are getting past the foam and flying out. Standing there fearlessly until I have the urgent feeling that my luck is really about to run out I cease spraying and hustle away into the darkness.

Back inside my friend's shop I decide to have a beer to cool down....I'm wearing goose down coveralls.....and I bring them up to speed on the previous few minutes happenings. You see, the shop faces the other way and neither one of them would come back there where the battle was taking place. So I tell the action packed story and figure I'll go back and see if the hornets have succumbed to the magic foam.

About 15 feet from the nest I turn my brighter than daylight Fenix on and SONOFABITCH.....my light is now a Tractor Beam straight off the Starship Enterprise. I was able to see a pile of deaduns in the nest but 575 dozen had escaped and were riding my flashlight beam all the way to the bulb. I can hear 'em hitting my coveralls, I can hear 'em buzzing and then I see 'em all around my head. I had the can of spray in my hand and where it went, Joe Montana would have been proud of the throw. It may never be found. Anyhow, I'm running and swatting and stumbling and forgot about his privacy fence and the corner that it made. Them sumbeeches run mw into that corner and I had to make a hard, quick turn and run right back thru 'em. By this time my biddy and his brother have heard me and they think I'm dying but I run into the shop and ask 'emif any of the bastages are still on me. Somehow I shook 'em off and never got stung.

So we're standing around and I explain that this schit ain't gonna work, that the hornets know whats going on and followed my light beam to me. So we get another beer and as we stand there cyphering we hear buzzing. Looking up at his flourescent lights, there's about 50 hornets in the shop. He kills the lights and we haul ass outside. Now we're under his security light and for the moment everything is OK and then the buzzing starts again. There was what appeared to be a couple of hundred swarming his light up on the pole and we take off across the yard again. Finally far enough away to feel safe, I'm up to about 275 degrees inside these coveralls and they help me peel 'em off.

Now, all this time my truck is parked about 25 feet from the nest and now I gotta go get it. I wait about 30 minutes and ease around to the truck and get in it. Seeing that the nest is the perfect height to drive under right up to the winshield I do just that......and shine my bright ass flashlight in the hole again. HOLY RAGING BLACK BEES Batman!! There was a brazillion of them sumbeeches even mire pissed off than ever now. They are attacking my hood, windshield wipers, windshield and all the while riding that Tractor Beam right up to the glass between me and them. They got death in their eyes. I backed out and drove around to the shop where it's reasonable safe.

Tomorrow at dark......Plan B..........stay tuned

We have one on a shooting house that we have to get gone, unfortunately we can't get to it without a ladder and it is attached on 3 sides to wafer board. If we could reach it without disturbing them I have a buddy who has and will hold a can of either to one until it runs out and yekrut has offered to get them while I film from the truck. Either works better than the spray in my opinion.

My advice is lose the light!

I hope those hornets tpbf posted pictures of are a long ways from here. Maybe they can figure out a way to train them to attack those ISIS idiots in Syria.

Can hornets see red light? Maybe use on of those red clip on hat lights.

One thing to think of is to use a red beam on the light. here is the plan I would use-
1. go in with the red light.
2. Double bag it in large plastic bags and seal the end.
3. Put nest and bag in freezer for a couple of months.
4. Just to be on the safe side treat the nest with wasp killer when you take the bag out of the freezer.
5. hang the nest out in the cold to make sure the activity is over.
The red light is the key. Insects can't see it. You don't need a bright light to sneak up on them.
Also you might put a bright white light some distance from the nest on the opposite side you are working on to attract any that are out side the nest when you attack.

Ok...I have either a dumb question or a brilliant idea....here goes:

What if you put a bunch of foam or something soft under the nest (if I remember correctly, it is only 4-5 feet off the ground.). Think ninja mode. No lights, tippy toeing. Assuming you get this part done....could you not cut the limb that the nest is attached to off of the tree, let the nest fall onto said foam, and run like hell (not in that order)...

So, the question is, will the hornets still stay in a nest that is laying on the ground or will they go find a new home?

why dont you have your buddies reverse wrap your whole body in gorilla brand duct tape so the sticky side is out and repeat last night but instead of running away just stand there with the tractor beam and let all those bastards stick to you and then let your buddies spray you with the hornet spray? problem solved

You may get lucky and the amount of product you were able to get in there last night made the nest unsuitable or even killed the queen or made her abandon. Even if so there will likely be stragglers still buzzing the nest that escaped during you onslaught.
