My dad had a s&w 357. It was nickel plated and I believe it was some kind of sheriffs edition. He had to sell it when I flipped the truck when I was 16. I can't remember the model but it had wood grips with kind of a checkered middle and a gold emblem in the handle. Believe it was a 4 inch barrel. He loved that gun and I would like to get one back for him.

Was it possibly a model 27. If so get ready to fork over a little. But well worth it especially if you're giving to your dad.

You might find one in a tree like this rifle if you look around. That bus didn't even tap the brakes

Keep an eye out, every now and then you can find one in very good shape starting about 750. But when you do you'll feel like you've hit a jackpot. A not so recognized collectible in my opinion compared to a mint model 29 but they do pop up from time to time. You can also try tracking down a model 28 highway. Nothing like American craftsmanship.
