I thought Sims looked much better than AJ did in his first start, and against a much better opponent.

Last Year Against Virginia Tech (Which was AJ's third year starting) Bama's stats were terrible.

McCarron was 10/23 for 110 yards 1 TD and 1 INT
AJ also took 4 sacks.

Bama only rushed for 96 yards as a team

Leading receiver was Jones with 2 receptions for 47 yards


Compare that to this year against WV.

Sims went 24/33 and 250 yards 1 INT

Henry and Yeldon both rushed for over 100 yards

Cooper led the team with 12 receptions and 130 yards


I'm not saying that Sims is better than AJ, but its just some nice food for thought.

Coker looks equally as intimidating as he did last year.

Sims was 24 of 33 for 250 yards and added 42 rushing yards. 1 INT
AJ was 14 of 23 for 226 yards with 1 TD and 2 INT (against Kent St)

The limp helps, too.

Maybe you should let Cooper speak for himself.......one more catch and he would have broken a school record ...

Simms is a leader that is one reason he started and also if Coker is a leader he needs to learn how to act like one on the side lines. He look very disinterested in the game. Neither Greg nor AJ would have won Championships with this defense. Our offense scored30+ points. Defense is where everyone should be concerned.....

Well there ya go.....Blake might or might not be better than Quarterbacks of the past but anyone calling for him to replaced by Coker after this game just looks foolish at best....

This team drops 3 or 4 with Sims at qb. He should have put Coker in at least a couple of series. Not trying to be Debbie Downer but this team doesn't look very good with the exception of the running backs and Cooper. Why don't they throw to tight ends anymore? They've had all the off season to prepare and that's the best they could do with a hurry up offense? Auburn will kill them. Roll Tide

Oh yeah, West Virginia sucked, that's why Sims stats seemed good. Anyone with a good eye can tell he won't make it.

Say what you want but Simms needs to improve, just like a few other QB's Bama has had in the past; once a QB telegraphs his throw, he always telegraphs his throw. That usually ends up being a lot of Int's. We can speculate about Coker all day, but until we see him get some quality playing time we will not be able to make an educated comparison. I think that next week we will see more of Coker.
On a side note the defense was getting smoked by the hurry up offense. This has the potential to be a long season but ROLL TIDE anyway.

I thought Blake managed the game very well against a great WV team. I think WV is a top 10 team and we may be their only loss this year.

He sucked just like there overrated defense and sawed off coach. If they had AU schedule and sims as qb they wouldn't finish the year in top 20

My question is that we were told it has been undecided up until the start of the game who will start. It's been that close in summer camp. Yet Coker didn't even see the field until the last two plays and just stood on the sidelines with a totally disinterested look. I just thought he would get some significant playing time. Also Greg McElroy said this morning that he believes Coker will eventually be the starter and he also didn't seem to be to impressed with Sims play yesterday. He should know.

He easily would have broken it with a decent QB throwing to him. He missed him on 2 wide open routes with terrible passes

Simms definitely needs to improve but so does Coker evidently even more and the defense needs to improve even more. With that said I believe they will do just that. I just shake my head though when people call for the benching of the qb when the coaches that have watched them throw and practice every day clearly decided who they thought was the better qb which should be even clearer when Coker did not get in the game till the last few plays. It evidently is not as close as some of the experts, fans and media thought but we shall see.

And you are sure that would not have happened with Coker in there........evidently Saban wasn't
