I'm looking to buy a dozer for our hunting camp. Looking for a Cat D5, prefer a high track. Would like to stay around $40,000, but would look at anything close. If anybody knows of one around please PM me about it, thanks.

x2

Auctions will be your best bet.

And not that you asked, nor am I trying to be a smart azz, but $40K will get you a lot of dozier work done, and you don't have to worry about maintaining a dozier undercarriage, knowing how to run one, or do anything else except write a check.

Preciate the advice fuzzy, I understand what you're saying. I run one all the time at work and we've got a bunch of different things to do on our property. I'd just like to have one to do what I need done and when I want to do it. We've needed one for years, but just now trying to find one. Never been to an auction like that. I was hoping to find one someone personally owns.

thumbup That is good. I don't know a lot about doziers, but do know that you can get stuck with a wore out piece of junk pretty easy if you don't know what you are looking at. It sounds like you know what you are doing. Good luck in the hunt, and I'll keep my eyes open.

central ala,
J M Wood is NOT the place to buy equipment. It goes very high. I go to about every one and have only bought a few items. Amazed at the prices. Sounds like you know dozers. I have had a few. The tracts of land I own are scattered around. I had to have someone move the bigger ones for me. I was a their mercy when they could do it. After I got most of the big work done I have settled on a JD 350c. I have had a few of these and they are great little dozers. But more importantly for me, I can load it and haul it where ever and when ever I want. Another great piece of equipment is a trackhoe. I sold mine and wish I had it back.

Just remember an auctioneers job is to get the highest price he can. No surprises at auctions these days. It all goes high.

Yeah and there are typically several jockeys (used equipment resellers) at auctions of any size. If they let something go for under market value there's usually a reason.

I also THINK the vast majority of the ones at a JM Wood auction come from municipalities (cities and counties). These are PROBABLY not the best cared for

But after you spend 40,000 on Dozer work your out 40g. When your through with the work and you bought one you can turn around and sell it and make most or all your money back and not be out 40 grand.

You are exactly right!!!

Try Tractorhouse.com Unlike an auction, the buyer can negotiate prices.

Depends on how much work you have to do to the dozier while you own it. Then things can eat $1K bills like they are going out of style laugh

Yep that's why I'm in favor of buying one. Not that I would want to, but if we ever got in a tight then we could always sell it. I like the idea of being able to use it whenever I want and do whatever I think needs doin while I'm on it. I'm still lookin for that good deal within a reasonable distance.

I bought a 580K Case (backhoe) a couple of years ago. I'm nearly finished with what I needed it for & will probably put it on the market for around 3/4 of what I paid. Compared to paying rent for 1000 hours +/- & having it there when I needed it, it's already more than paid for itself.

Call Denny at Alabama Truck and Equipment and tell him what you're looking for. His equipment yard is on the toll bridge road close to the interstate.
