How many times do ya'll mow it over the summer? I mowed once just before a rain in June and it came back good. It's tall now and the seed head are brown.Would you mow it again or wait til you top seed in a month?

Ideally, everytime approximately 1/4 of the plants in the plot put on blooms. (For me generally 1-2 times a month from late April through the middle of October.)
In your case (already gone to seed), spray now if weedy, mow in 2 weeks to 1 month.

I only mow mine to keep broadleaf weeds controlled. White clover spreads from underground rhizomes, not seed. Do not mow clover, if it is stressed. Wait for cooler temps, after a rain. White clover will go dormant during a deer's summer stress period. Mowing regularly can delay the onset of dormancy or even eliminate it altogether by preventing the plants going to seed. This ensures weeds do not get the sunlight needed to grow, and provides more summer forage for deer. You cant really stress white clover too much. It is one of the hardier food plot plants there is.

I do this^^^ with one exception, I dont like mine to get over 8" tall or so. I had rather the energy be put into the leaves vs. stems. blumsdens mowing probably keeps his about the same height.

Thats great if that works for you. My durana plots are about to turn seven years old, and I have been following the mowing practices I read on the QDMA forums for four years now. I havent applied any new seed for four years because i have no bare spots. My plots are as green and weed free now as they were in March.

You can do either but my personal preference would be to spray the grasses especially if they haven't seeded yet. When mowing if you can cut everything down to the clover is best, or at least it is when it has been this dry.
I am not a turf guy/agronomist but have spent a considerable amount of time working with Pennington over the years and I can assure you that mowing an already stressed stand of clover is not a good idea. If the plot is not stressed, then fine mow it, it will not hurt anything, neither will a lite disking. Further stressing of an already stressed stand will risk stand failure, been there and done that.

Well I fertilized and overseeded last Thurs and then mowed. I was expecting rain the next day I sure hope I didn't kill it.

I usually mow mine 3 times a year Memorial Day, 4th July, Labor Day, This keeps the weeds from being able to seed out. I usually spray for grass once a year between Memorial Day and 4th July cutting. It is going on it's 4 year and looks as good now as it did year one.
If you're gonna be stupid you better be tough.

I've got two durana fields on opposite ends of the county that I planted on the same day three years ago. They both looked awesome until the last two months. One of them on the east side of the county is pulling out if it now and looking great after getting some rain. The other field on the west side of the county is highly stressed. Not sure it will even make it. It has turned brown and lost about 80% of the foliage. Probably have to start over on that one. I mow and spray them both. Amazing how the lack of moisture in this heat can stunt it so bad compared to a field with moisture.
