Received the opportunity of a lifetime a few minutes ago. Just received a message on Facebook from my sister that her boss is going to let me and one of my buddies hunt either of his two ranches in Webb County down in South Texas a few times this fall. The gravy part is that its all free. Only have to pay for transportation. Super pumped up about it really, almost shouted out loud from my desk when I got the news. That news has completely made my year so far. One of his ranches is high fenced while the other is low fenced. Gonna be honest and say I will have to try 'em both out because I may not ever get this chance again.. Super pumped up about being able to hunt such a place. I know he has invested in breeder bucks up to 50k each for both properties and they are very selective on what comes off the property for the last 10yrs. Didn't mean to boast or brag but I am pretty excited to say the least.

I just looked at my calendar and I'm free during the rut for that part of Texas.

Just sayin....

You will have fun either place you go. South TX is way different hunting than AL, but it is cool to see 100 plus bucks in three or 4 days of hunting.

Awesome! I wouldn't do the high fence though. Good luck!

I would do the high fence if it was free, but I wouldn't try to claim it as free range AL kill and enter it in a big buck contest. Have fun

I was able to hunt southwest texas last year for the first time. I have a patient who has a small ranch by Texas standards (3000 acres!) and he just up and called me spur of the moment. Headed out there in mid January and although the rut was over it was awesome. Very different hunt than I'm used to. Arrive at the box blind around 630 am and 400 pm. Corn feeder goes off and deer/pigs/javelina come running out of the scrub like their hair is on fire. Saw a ton of deer and shot a nice 10 pt the second day. Although I love the scout/hunt/outsmart aspect of our form of deer hunting, it was still really cool just to see that many horns and animals. And be warned, every dang thing out there has a thorn on it. Rough country. Hope you have a great hunt.
