Arab? Guntersville? I'm not sure where they got their info but whoever was in charge should be in a different line of work. Some places may belong on that list, others not so much.

All you have to do it look at the criminal court filings. It isn't rocket science.

It's just statistics. They can manipulate them any way they want to show whatever results they want.

Their are very few Mexicans at all in Arab. I'd venture to guess that Arab's population is 99.9% white. I'm not saying that white folks don't commit crime but they had to do some serious manipulation to come up with the numbers to get Arab on the list. Other than a few shoplifting and thieving methheads, not much goes on.

Maybe they used shoplifting crimes in their study? They obviously didn't use violent crimes, which is what most would look at when considering an area "dangerous". Thieves are everywhere and a part of life. I'd much rather deal with a few of those than to worry about walking down the street and being mugged. I wouldn't feel uncomfortable at all walking through any part of Arab after dark, unarmed.

The last, and only, homicide that I can remember in Arab happened to be my uncle, in 2000. He was shot and killed by his son in law at his daughter's tanning business.

Those stats are based on crimes per 1,000 people. One bad year in a small population area will skew the results pretty sharply. One year we had a mass murder of 6 people in Crenshaw County (some of ya'll may remember that one) it was a bad domestic based murder isolated to two bad apples in a family disagreement. But because of that case it really skewed the crime stats for that year.

The stats were ranked according to Property Crimes instead of Violent crimes. They should have used the word costly instead of dangerous in this study.

This list is laughable, there's more crime committed in a week in Montgomery than monroeville has in a year,I know it's based on population but this survey gives good cities a bad wrap

The fact that Arab is on the list makes the rest of the list mean nothing to me. When we lived there, the only minorities were Asian doctors. Our doors were never locked.

Actually, yes I have. I was up there in the 80's. One Friday night. A family friend was a contractor and he remodeled many of the HUD houses up there. He has snow white hair and at that time the A team was on TV. My parents with me and my brother in tow, and he and his wife went out to supper one night. He took us on a tour of the hill after supper. It was pitch black dark, and those folks came out into the street hollering hello to "Hannibal."

I've worked in everyone of those cities listed and the best part about Prichard and Selma was a way out.

It must be, because the phucking dumbass who thinks Guntersville and Arab are in the top 15 most dangerous cities in Alabama is a phucking idiot.

All you have to do it look at the criminal court filings. It isn't rocket science.

Mexicans maybe? They have plenty over that way.

Most likely a huge contributing factor.

Arab is as close to big time Mayberry as it gets in my opinion. I think it is that it is the safest place with a walmart as I have seen.

I agree. I have worked in the Anniston area for the last several years. Many of the people who work at our plant are "hood" types. Even most of them know to stay away from the Norwood part of town.

You err been on tha hill? [/quote]

I went to school at Snead State in Boaz and worked in Boaz for about ten years. I have been all over "Meth Mountain". I have a friend who lives on "the hill" over off of Rayburn Ave. Not the optimal place to live, but I never felt like I was in danger from being there.

Occasionally, I used to go through the "Little Mexico" section of Albertville to buy salsa at a Mexican market. Most of the Mexicans are workers who just want to be left alone and try not to draw a lot of attention to themselves.

Even though there are lots of meth people, most of them don't kill or hurt anyone. They will steal anything to make a quick buck.

Contrast that to the north side of B-ham. Go back behind the Civic Center and get lost in that area at night.

Talk to someone who as ever worked the night shift at Union Foundry in Anniston. Ask how safe they were going to and from work. Even the cops don't want to go there. A while back, I stopped at McDonald's in Anniston and had a crack head trying to open my car door as I pulled away from the drive through.

You can go by the data if you want to, but I was raised with enough common sense to know a bad situation when I see it. I would take my chances in Guntersville or Arab any day over some of the other places I have been.

I really expected Tuscaloosa to rank high on the list. They've had a lot of shootings lately.

Look, the burglaries are what skewed the numbers for Arab. Burglary is not considered a property crime or a theft. It is considered a crime of violence. Always has been. The last person executed in Alabama for something other than murder was a burglary case. Murder, rape and robbery were low numbers, but, burglary was very high for a town that size. Burglary usually goes along with drugs.

I had a normal day of work yesterday and drove 403 miles. I spent most of the day in Tuskegee. I work all over the south east, live 12 miles from Arab and my office is in Guntersville. I had rather walk through Arab night or day unarmed with a sign saying I have one million dollars and no gun as to eat lunch at some places I have been. Just my 2 cents.

those statistics is just crime compared to population, and are very misleading. im sure the people who come up with that hasnt been were its dangerous. the gump, port city, and magic city. are the most dangerous in the state imo, but theres alot of folks living there. And as far as meth capitol. Goodman community is in the heart of the 600 block of coffee county, and will give any area a run for its money. Its not a dangerous place, just active.

My only question after seeing the list is why are y'all so violent in North Alabama? Now I understand the Drive By Truckers lyrics from "Never Gonna Change", "Strong like the people from South Alabama and mean like the people from here." laugh

That list makes me wonder how much Todd Strange and his regime paid to keep Montgomery off the list. Maybe the guy that put that together should do a 5 mile walk from Smiley Court to Capital Heights one Saturday night and see if he actually makes it alive.

We've all heard one too many wise cracks about our overalls, so over time we just get a short fuse. I even bought me some Bob Barker flip flops so I could jack slap people with them.

Wow, Phenix City has come a long ways not to be on that list

This is a quote from the Mayor of Guntersville;

"For those that read the story posted by news station WKRG about Alabama's 15 most dangerous cities listing Guntersville and Arab--- I have checked into where the story originated, and it appears it was from data prepared by Safe Choice Security which sells home security systems. The police department contacted the company by phone to request the data used in their claim, and they hung up! The police have also contacted the station WKRG expressing concern about them airing a story which in my opinion grossly misrepresents our City and County."

The backlash from this may end up being more than the security company bargained for.

Nice find. I almost posted last night that I wondered who paid this company to do this study. It is apparent now they likely did it for business. Follow the money. I was wondering why Montgomery and tuscaloosa didn't find their way onto the list.

That is very interesting. Because if you noticed. The BIG crime they listed was burglary. Alarm company, claims of burglaries. Very interesting.

So let me get this straight the media is posting inaccurate info. That could purposely be biased. And it was orchestrated to benefit someone else. I reckon next you also gonna tell me that politicians are crooked too.
