Wife & I went by after a doctor's appt. Sat in the back, everything fine, table next to us had four obama supporters, three women, one male, middle aged. Other than being loud and rude with iphones no problem. Their waiter is a tall good looking twenty something guy, Caucasian, intelligent, well spoken, educated, polite. They obviously weren't. He had to keep going over their orders cause he couldn't understand them and they kept changing it. Wife & I heard everything. Food arrives, they weren't happy. Wanted something else. He politely takes out his order tab and reviewed specifically what they had ordered. Made them mad. Demanded to see the manager. Manager comes, politely listened to them b***h about the food, the service, waiter's attitude, wait time, ect. He was very good at his job, listened, said he'd take care of it, ect. Wife & I pack up and leave, I asked to see the manager on the way out. He had that "not another one" look until I told him that the complaints were total BS and that we had heard everything and the kid was ten times more patient that anyone could expect. Appreciative is an understatement.

Seems to me like some of them have it down to a science. I get p.o'd every time I see it happen. It's the want to get something for nothing mentality I guess. It ain't right. Good thing you did.

Wife said exactly the same thing - that they were deliberately trying to mess it up to get a free meal.

Cracker Barrel is one of the best chain restaurants around. No matter which one you go to, the food tastes the same, service is the same, etc...... It's all pretty good food and for a decent price. Not very many chain restaurants can say that. I was once a server for several restaurants in Destin, and believe me you DO NOT want to piss off the server or cook for a stupid reason. If it's legit, no problem. But if it's not, you best check your food before you eat it. If you known what I mean.

Excellent!!! thumbup

My wife laid into a manager at CB one time for being too harsh to our obviously greenhorn waiter. The waiter got our order partly wrong, but was trying to do a good job, so we weren't upset at all.
The manager noticed he got the order wrong and started acting like an ass to the waiter in front of everyone, my wife gets up and defends the waiter and the manager apologizes.
Before we left, 4 other waiters/waitresses stopped by to thank my wife. grin

The manager probably comped some of there meal or all of it. To bad he didn't walk up to them and make them pay for the whole thing plus what all they sent back. But then they would have screamed Racist and Al sharpton would have shown up.

My wife And I will be quick to talk to the Managers when there is bad bad service and I mean bad service not just waiting on your drink for an extra 5 min. But we are even Quicker to talk to them when we have great service.

I had almost the exact thing happen to me at one in Nashville a couple of years ago. Was a real A-hole yankee, white feller though. He chewed on the waiter over a piece of bacon he wasn't supposed to get, then chewed on the female manager. My wife had to call me down, I chewed on the A-hole Yankee. I later spoke with the manager and my wife talked to the young waiter. Manager acted like she was used to it. Damn, makes me mad thinking about it!

I've walked both sides of that aisle. Bad service gets a meeting with a manager. Great service also gets a meeting with a manager.

Both deserve to be heard.

I had a friend/neighbor ask us to go out to dinner with them and a group of about 10 total. She acted like an azzhat the entire meal. It was obvious she was jonesing to get a free meal. Tried to get everyones free.

I wasn't impressed. I took a bathroom break, went to manager and server, paid for our meal with a larger than average tip to makeup for the hassle. Turns out the other 3 couples that were guests were thinking the same thing.

Never went anywhere with the neighbor again.

I'd have also recommended to the kid in your post, to start practicing active listening when dealing with that demographic. Repeat back their order, one at a time, get a yes, then place the order. Keep a copy, if they call back to change something, repeat the entire order to them. It's a pain in the azz to him, but it will be a bigger pain in the azz to the azzhats.

We were at Logans once. Waitress SUCKED. After she took our drink order, it was 45 min till she got our food order. That was the last time we saw her. The waitress in the next section took care of us and did a great job.

When we finished, I caught the two waitresses and the manager all standing together. I walked up to the three of them and gave the good waitress a generous tip and explained to the sucky waitress why she didn't get a tip.

I met a client this morning at Cracker Barrel today and went on a site visit. When we finished our visit this afternoon and got back to the truck we decided to go back to the Cracker Barrel to discuss some other projects over some coffee. The other guy and I both ordered coffee and politely told the waitress that we had already eaten and were just having coffee. It was around 3 so of coarse it was not busy at all but we were there about an hour discussing things. Anyway, the waitress did not come back to our table a single time to offer a refill or ask if we wanted anything else. It was obvious that we were talking business so it must be protocol for waitresses at Cracker Barrel to stop serving people that are using their tables for business (even if they order something and it's not busy at all).

I'm not sure how I feel about this yet but trying to be objective. Maybe it was wrong for me to utilize their table as my office or maybe they should have refilled my coffee cause I may just pass next time Cracker Barrel is suggested.

Coffee isn't a revenue-producer. You told her you weren't ordering anything. Y'all were worthless to them to generate any money.

And they, and other businesses, don't care what you might do or when you might return. Their only concern is the here and now, and making that buck.

Your right Clem, that's exactly the way we were treated (either right or wrong). I do know that for 2 coffees it was 5 bucks so they did benefit from my hour meeting even in the slightest. Good point though, they don't need my long-term service cause that table will be taken by the next person in line so why continue to serve me. Big businesses don't care but small business do.

I should have just had coffee at the local coffee shop and then I wouldn't be complaining.

I see this crap all the time at tables nearby while i eat out.
They order food with the full intent of "having some sort of problem" once the bill arrives so they can argue their way out of paying. Maybe waiters should start taking tables orders like that with the manager present while videoing it.

If I don't like the food or service at a place I don't go back. Seen a lot of people show their ass over their order or how long it took like one of their constitutional rights has been violated. Don't really see the point in it.

We meet at the Destin Cracker Barrel occasionally and never have any kind of problems, doesn't matter if we eat or just have a glass of tea.

Good point though, they don't need my long-term service cause that table will be taken by the next person in line so why continue to serve me. Big businesses don't care but small business do.

Wasn't chastising. I've done the same.

But you're right about Big vs. Small. The Big will ignore you because you're taking up a table, and they don't care if you don't come back for a few months. They believe you'll eventually return (and, unfortunately, most of us do).

The Small will pour coffee down your neck with a funnel and help you go pee because they want you back. They NEED you back, so they don't mind taking a few bucks and brewing coffee while you and Jimmy Joe meet for an hour in the afternoon. Hell, they're getting ready for evening service anyway. Your two cars our front show folks someone's there and that's probably more important than the five bucks for coffees.

If it's legit, no problem. But if it's not, you best check your food before you eat it. If you known what I mean.

I can say for sure that the cracker barrel in Greenville Al isn't that way. The service is consistent..consistently bad. Poorly managed and it seems that there is no rhyme or reason to what servers wait on what table. I have sat there many times for 5 to 10 minutes before being waited on. There aren't many other dining options or I'd never go back.

We've always had good service at the Madison Cracker Barrel. They seem to hire folks who talk English and are not from Chicago.
