My dad, two brothers and myself have went on a yearly hunting trip to KS or South Dakota for the past several years. My brothers want to change it up and make a fishing trip this year. We normally go during one of the first two weeks of November. What would be a good trip to make? I know very little about salt water fishing as you can tell. We talked about maybe making an overnight fishing trip but we are not sure as of now. Throw the suggestions at me.

Fairwater its to early for me to ask any detailed questions but if there is some decent fishing to be had during that time that interests all of us Ill get with you to see what yall have to offer.

Absolutely nothing against the saltwater capts here as I'm sure they can flat load the boat as well, but I second the Venice area that time of year. You can make a lifetime of memories in a couple of days.

Looking for offshore or inshore (Reds, trout, etc.) I like going to Hopedale, LA if inshore because you are just a 40-45 min ride back into New Orleans for dinner.

An overnight tuna trip would be good.

How do you prep tuna yourself? I've had it out of a can and that's it. We are big on eating what we catch/kill.

comparing tuna in a can to fresh tuna is about like comparing the beef in a taco bell taco to filet mignon.
cut steaks 3/4" to 1" thick and throw a little blackened seasoning or whatever you like on each side and throw in a scalding hot iron skillet with a little olive oil in it. sear for 20 seconds, flip, sear for 20 seconds put it on a plate. it will only be cooked about 1/16" to 1/8" through on each side and for the most part will be raw. serve with soy sauce.
enjoy

I enjoying the process of tuna fishing and love eating it. It all depends on what you enjoy and like, it may not be something y'all would enjoy. I like "billfishing". Which is really marlin/sailfish, tuna, dolphin, wahoo fishing. The only one that you have a good shot at in November would be tuna. The process of staying offshore overnight is a big part of the draw to me as well. Your captain will mix it up and target other species....maybe even a swordfish while you are shut down at night.

If money isn't an issue, go offshore one day and inshore one day. Offshore from Venice is running $2000 a day and inshore is $750, give or take a few bucks.

You'd do well to book a houseboat in Venice Marina. They run in the $200/night range. There's a restaurant within walking distance of the houseboats.

Let me know if you need any contact info.

^that nails how to prepare it. We have often pulled out the soy/ginger/wasabi on a fresh catch and skip the cooking part . Very good cockpit appetizer!
