For my line traps are an investment and without putting any of these traps in the ground I'm gonna say the KB 5.5 is my pick of the bunch. I can turn the pan tension down and catch everything that I want during fur season and turn it back up for coyotes only during the summer months. It's a more expensive trap but you get what you pay for and I don't think anyone that buys these traps will be disappointed.

Any of the Minnesota brand traps are made to last they just don't fit my style of trapping.

For the money the Bridger dogless is all a hobby trapper needs. It comes fully modded out and should hold up for several seasons depending on abuse.

I'm gonna keep playing with the 2 Montgomery's I bought but will not be ordering anymore.

Love those mb 550s and mb650s !! The KB 5.5 is great if you are trapping around peoples pets. They are hard to bed , sometimes but I like the spinngy thing on the bottom. It does LITTLE damage to non-target aniamls. Are those the= Finned fox hollow stack?? I use the regalar Fox Hollow and replace the cable with chain

North40 I know the law says 6 inch jawspread. I have had people tell me that is measured inside and others say it is outside spread. Which do you go by? I think it was shooters that said the warden told him they measure inside spread. I can't find any regulation except not over 6 inch jawspread. It makes a pretty big difference, especially on those cast jaws and laminated jaws. Those bigger traps are some pretty good money and I hate to buy something I can't use.

Shooters those are the finned super stakes. I order them already rigged out with chain so all I have to do is attach them to traps.

Thanks 40Bucks! Now get down here and help me and Charlie get all these suckers in the ground. Lol!

Charlie I can't find anything on it either so I asked my local GW and he and I decided inside. The reason being when your trap is set inside the jaws is your kill area. That's why I went with the inside laminations on the 650. I know you help them out but your kids would love that Bridger #2. It has just over 5 1/2" jawspread and the dogless version comes nightlatched and has a huge pan. If the springs do weaken after a season you can order music wire replacement springs for a few bucks.

That makes sense for inside spread. I use those chained super stakes too. I haven't rigged any up with cable to make them easier to pull up yet, I just dig them up some and pull them out. Only time I have a problem is hitting a rock or in real wet areas where I put some dp traps but any other anchors would have problems there too. Never had one pull out.

Last year was my first time using them Charlie and I was very impressed. They held everything we caught without fail and even had several with 2 coyotes caught in the same set days apart that didn't budge the anchor.

Charlie, I called and talk to OUR local gamewarden . I was told to measure the inside of the jaws. I want to know before I droppped 235 dollars a dozen on MB 650s. You have to get the Inside laminated MB 650s. They meaure like 5 and 15/16s of and inch or right on 6 inches. You want find a inside or outside answer in the manual only says 6 inchs.

I use fox hollow myself. The finned is a little much for red clay. Here is what I do. I buy the fox hollow bullets = no chains. I take a chainsaw fill, open up the hole in the bottom, so i can put a 660 lb d-ring. Then I attach 12 inches of number 4 ,chain= wolf chain and a larger d-ring 880 lb. The reason I replace the chain?? With number 4 chain you can stick a sharpened pick =pointy end and pry the trap -up or I get MY custom old style bumper jack out. It has a hook , so I attach it to the d-ring that hold the trap and chain and Jack it out of the ground.

I dig mine up with post hole diggers. Usually a chop or three and it pops right out.

Red clay and chert, have prevented me from digging them up with a pair of post hole diggers to many times! I had some traps in St. Clair County I actually hooked a chain to the d-ring, hook it to the bumper and pulled out- with Toyota 4x4. grin I drove the fox hollows down 12 inchs in wet clay, and 1 week latter when I moved my line, it took 4x4 to pull up the Fox Hollow bullets !!!

I will be glad to come down for a day one weekend and be a pack mule if you'll show me how to make some dirt hole sets. No joke, I'd enjoy a day watching and learning.

Anytime dude! We'll try to plan it later on when it's cooler and I've got a good line out already. CWeeks did it last season and luckily the day he was down here with me we caught the black coyote and a big beaver.
