What is the best broadhead on the market for killing BIG hogs? How many blades and best weight.

If i were going strictly for pigs, it would be a fix blade head, weight would be a personal choice. I like the vpa 3 blade solid head at 150gr. The qad exodus, slick trick, simmons land sharks just to name a few. As long as the bow is tuned well it should shoot a fixed blade with field points. While deer hunting i have shot a 150lb boar with grim reaper 1.5" cut, fletching held it in from getting a passthru. So shot place is key which im sure you know that anyway since you deal with pigs on a daily basis.

I would go 3 blade fixed type head. Probably use a NAP Hellrazor. Although I don't believe any head on the market is made to shoot through a hog's shoulder. Best shot placement on a hog with a bow is hard quartering away and run in right behind the shoulder. Basically trying to exit front of opposite shoulder. No way I would expect to get an arrow through a pig's shoulder.

I suspect this question is being ask just to raise awareness as I believe you know exactly what, where, and how this should be done. grin

I've had luck with NAP Blood Runners 2 blade. They still cut if they fail to open also...

I've only shot 100 pounders, but I've had good luck with Thunderhead 100s.

stay away from 3 blades, two blades will out penetrate em by a lot.

a heavy stout two blade WILL penetrate the shield on any hog, been there done that.

heavy arra, stout two blade will kill any hog that can walk.

Had a buddy give me 3 2 blade Land Sharks or something like that a while ago. I think they are 160 grains. Sounds like I need to give them a try.

A couple of guys from Iowa went hunting with us a few years ago. We caught a little boar that weighed only about 140 pounds but he had really nice teeth; close to 3.5 inches on each side. They wanted to mount the hog but they wanted to shoot him with a bow. We took the hog to a food plot and unhobbled two legs so the hog could stand up. The guy shot the hog at about 30 yards. He was standing about 5 steps from the truck when he shot. He hit the hog perfectly and the arrow passed through. The hog, with two legs hobbled, came within inches of getting the guy before he could get on the truck. His buddy finished the hog off with a slug gun. I have no idea what type broadhead he shot the hog with, but I bet you couldnt pay him to shoot another hog with a bow while standing on the ground. I wish I had videoed that whole sequence.

Landshark is a good head, I shot the 160s on deer for several years.

Landsharks are great heads, and easy to sharpen.

one of these would be my choice for BIG boars...

Silverflame(180gr) on left, prolly the best broadhead ever made, sharpest I've ever seen and stays sharp..$30 each

Ashby in the middle, very heavy at 315gr but a real penetrator and very sharp...$30 each

Add me in there too. Good heavy arrow to go with it, and make sure it is well tuned.

Jerry gave me a few to try back in the late 90's. Great heads but eventually the rocks that always hide on the exit side killed them. Sure will quieten your bow down when paired with a big ol aluminum bow bullet.
