I think if we really consider ourselves as hunters and outdoorsmen then we should be more worried about our future
than baiting or extending deer season. Heck we have let the sport of hunting go down and we should be out educating young hunters to consider carrying on our heritage and keep them off the streets and making family time with them instead the number of hunters each year go down drastically and before long we want have enough people to back us and then you want have to worry about baiting and extending deer season , God has blessed us with the priviledge to hunt his game and manage his animals and we should all pull together and try to do a better job of continuing our love of the outdoors by introducing it to future and present youth.

Are you saying that people that want to hunt the rut in February is not a real hunter or real outdoorsmen?

What I'm saying is we should value our hunting rights and be trying to bring people into hunting and feel as strong about that issue as we do with people who are wanting to hunt in Feb. because if we don't have people standing up for our right to hunt before long that right might be taken away.
We are living in a pretty crooked world right now and people are trying everyday to take away what alot of us value deeply
if you talk to warden's at management areas they will tell you that each year the number of hunters are off drastically and that's not a good sign , we need to be introducing people to God's great outdoors.

Well, I was just stirring, two extra weeks in October and two extra weeks in February gives us four extra weeks to introduce someone else to the outdoors. Now if I could just talk my wife into having some more babies, there would be little foldemup's everywhere that I could pass down my love for the outdoors to.

Hunting is not a mere privilege. It is a God-given right that is recognized by our state constitution. You can read about it's origin in the book of Genesis. I didn't see anything there about wildlife management, however.

If you want to preserve hunting as your right, never give in to the temptation to call it a privilege.

49er,glad to see you posting again.

"I didn't see anything there about wildlife management, however."

Are you referring to the state constitution or the bible? If it is the bible then I would have to disagree with you. I believe the bible teaches us to be good stewards of everything he has given us. God gave man all the animals, we named them and he told us to rule over them. Now, we may have done a poor job in the past but that is because men are greedy and sinful. Alot of land has already been, cut, burned, developed and alot of animals have paid the price. So...whats wrong with managing the resources God has blessed us with?

I have "heard" over and over that hunting license sales go down every year. I dont know if I have ever read a report with real data. Anybody know the real facts and figures?

License sales have nothing to do with hunter numbers, it only means fewer people are worried about getting caught.
The real figures are counted in retail sales of hunting related goods, which have been steadily climbing for the past 20 years, and the availability/affordability (or lack of) hunting land.

Southwood,

Whenever you see a rainbow in the sky, think of God's rainbow covenant with man and wildlife:

Genesis, Chapter 9
Quote:
1 Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth. 2 The fear and dread of you will fall on all the beasts of the earth, and on all the birds in the sky, on every creature that moves along the ground, and on all the fish in the sea; they are given into your hands. 3 Everything that lives and moves about will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything.
4 “But you must not eat meat that has its lifeblood still in it. 5 And for your lifeblood I will surely demand an accounting. I will demand an accounting from every animal. And from each human being, too, I will demand an accounting for the life of another human being.

6 “Whoever sheds human blood,
by humans shall their blood be shed;
for in the image of God
has God made mankind.

7 As for you, be fruitful and increase in number; multiply on the earth and increase upon it.”

8 Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him: 9 “I now establish my covenant with you and with your descendants after you 10 and with every living creature that was with you—the birds, the livestock and all the wild animals, all those that came out of the ark with you—every living creature on earth. 11 I establish my covenant with you: Never again will all life be destroyed by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.”

12 And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: 13 I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. 14 Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, 15 I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. 16 Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.”

17 So God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all life on the earth.”

[emphasis in bold is mine]

49er, if you are not a lawyer, you need to become one. I got a little case going on right now that I need your help with.

I wish that I could argue as good as you do. Keep it up. It is very fun to watch.

I agree with your last post 49er,but I am not sure you answered my question. You said that you didnt see anything in there about wildlife management. if God tells us to rule over all of the animals, dont you think that would involve a little management? We manage cows, sheep, dogs, cats, fish, chickens, why are deer excluded from the management list?

Southwood,

I don't like trying to manage deer like livestock because I like to hunt wildlife... not livestock. In my view, our game and fish laws are sufficient to fulfill our obligation to be good stewards in God's eyes. We don't need to micro-manage wildlife to the point it becomes livestock in order to please God.
